how to install FOOT WELL LIGHTS
Posted by: tucpal - 27:th-Feb-2014, 16:54:47 - Forum: Lighting How-to's - Replies (136)

This How to will Show and give you Information
on How to fit FOOT WELL LIGHTS..

OK for this How to you will need to get Two
LED lights one for the Driver’s side & one for the Passenger’s side
I used a 48 Led Board like the Picture below.

I can Recommend the above LED Units they are Really Bright
and have Lasted a year now
They and cost about £4.
You can find Links on eBay
You can also use LED Strip Lights if you wish.

STEP ONE...........

Buy some cable 5 AMP.
Make sure they are two Different colors one for Power and one for Ground
just so you Don't get them mixed up.
Next step Tap into the Ambient Light Circuit
for the Courtesy Lights Power & Ground
This will mean the Foot well Lights will work the way the Courtesy lights do.
Open the Door they will Light up
close the door they will Fade out
Press the Button on the Courtesy Light in the headliner
and they will Come on and Stay on till you Press the Button off.

First you need to Remove the Glove Box
follow the How To

how-to here for glove box removal

Now you have the glove box out.

Look just Behind the Fuse Box
and Pull the top Left Hand Side of the Carpet back
and you will see Three looms there.

The loom that you want is the Loom
that Goes up the A Pillar to the Headliner.

You need to Remove some of the Black Insulation Tape to get to the Wires on the Loom
& find a (GRAY) Wire there are (THREE GRAY WIRES) you need the (THICKEST ONE)
that is the Positive Wire And then Find a Black Wire
That is the Ground for you LED’S.

STEP TWO...........

Splice one Wire to the (Positive, Grey) and One Wire to the (Black, Ground)
make sure you Have the Correct amount of Wire
you need to Reach the first LED in the Passenger side.

Look around for a good Place to fix the LED LIGHT
I Fixed it with zip Ties to the Heater Blower vents
then add the Power & Ground to the LED Light
It will now Work just Open the Door or Press the Button on the Light Unit in the Headliner
and the LED will Light up But Keep the LED
Out the way of Passengers Feet so it Does not get knocked off.

STEP THREE............

Remove the Side Trims from both Sides of the Center Console they just Pull off.

Now Splice Two Wires from the Wires you have just Done on the Passenger side
And run them Through the Gap in the Center Console to the Driver side
and Add the Two Wires to the LED
Again I zip Tied the LED too the Heater Vents just above the Peddles.

Now make sure Everything is taped up
and all safe & all Neat and Tidy with zip Ties Tape etc.

ALTERNATIVE OPTION

You can also Take Power from the Console in the Roof if you like
so Remove the Console from the Headliner.

How-to remove courtesy light can be found here

Again you will See one Grey and one Black wire on the Connector.

You add the Two Wires from the Connector & run them Through the Headliner & Down the A Pillar
heading to the Passenger Foot well you also can Pick this Loom up Here
And Pick the Grey & Black Wires out from the Loom if you Remove the side Trim.

RESULTS

So now that is it all Done
you now have Foot well Lights.

As always Need any help just ask Thanks.

It is always Best to Solder the Joint you have done when Splicing into any Wires
on the car and then Shrink Wrapping them this will Insure a Neat and Tidy and A Safe joint.

***NOTE***

Take extra Care when Picking out the Gray Wires from the Loom
there are Three and you need the Fattest wire..

As with all Electrical How too,s you do this at your own Risk
if Followed Correctly you will have no Problems.

Then you can start removing the door cards,

So get a small precision screwdriver and remove the cover on behind the door handle

Then lift up the window control switch, and then pull it towards the car.

Next you need to remove the trim running up the door handle, start where I have and work your way up (Follow the pictures), Take you time as it is easy to break some clips.

Next job is to remove the 3 screws

Next you need to pull the door card from the door, be careful the clips can break here

Once you've unclipped the door card you need to lift it up on the right edge then pull it back to the right,

Unclip all the connections and remove that's it done.

Refitting is the reversal of removal.

Rear.

Again really simple and straightforward,

For thoses with the manual winder please see the below clip
for a quick and cheap way of getting the clip off with a rag.

To start we need to use a small precision screwdriver to remove the cover behind the handle

Next we need to remove the back end of the trim around the window switch

Next we need to remove the window switch so simply pull up from the rear

and unclip from the front

Next we can remove the front end of the trim

Undo the 3 screws

Next we need to pop the door card off starting at the bottom

Once you've unclipped the door card you need to lift it up on the right edge then pull it back to the right

Undo connections and that's it.

Please note if you want to buy extra clips before you remove the door cards then you will need the following per door.
