DAB retro fit for cars with the cd500 and 600
Posted by: tucpal - 21:st-Feb-2014, 20:02:13 - Forum: Retrofit How-to's - Replies (112)

this is for the NAV500 and 600 that have the FM already in Place
And the Shark Fin on the Roof for the Sat Nav
But do not Have DAB.

If you have the CD400 go to the CD400 DAB how to.

So if you have the NAV500 or 600
And you have the Tabs in Place on the Rear window
then you will find the one for the DAB is a Dummy
just put there in Place to make it Look nice.

Remove the Trim from the Tail Gate
you will see all the Receivers are There for the FM
So you only need the DAB Receiver (ZA)
And a 1 Meter fakra Z Cable
Going from the Receiver (ZA) to the Double Female Connector
In the Roof Right hand side just under the Headliner
just follow the Cable from the Shark fin to find the Connector you need
it will have one coming from the Shark fin for SAT NAV
and an Empty Slot that you need for the DAB.

Thread the Fakra Z Cable 1 Meter Female too Male
From the Receiver Through the Tail Gate
to the Right hand side off the Headliner.

See the Blue Plastic on the End of the Male Connector Pictured above
you now have to Remove the Blue Plastic Case and just Leave to Metal Pin
so Gently cut the Blue bit away Leaving the Metal Pin inside and in tacked
it is the Metal Pin that will Connect to the Double Female end in the Roof
i do not have a Picture of the Connector Striped or of the one in the Roof
so if any one can send me one it would help others.

You now need to get the DAB Module and Connect it up to the Exiting
Connectors in the front Foot Well just above the Accelerator Peddle
you are looking for the Black and Green Connectors there.

The Module is held in Place by a Bracket
That you must also get and one Screw
once you have that all in Place
you are now Ready for Programming and VCI Activation
You will have DAB Radio Smile

DAB Module Part Numbers are
for the (Astra J 13319590 UBT)
and for the (Astra J GTC 13362385 UBT.)
the Cradle for the DAB unit is (GM 13263525).

AS WITH ALL ELECTRICAL HOW TOO,S.
you do this at your own risk if you follow the how to correctly
there should be no problems thank you.

DAB retro fit for cars with the CD 400
Posted by: tucpal - 21:st-Feb-2014, 19:21:15 - Forum: Retrofit How-to's - Replies (203)

This is a How for Factory DAB and Integrated FM and Shark Fin Ariel.
for the CD400 with out the Rear Glass Already in Place.

If you have The NAV500 or 600 Go to the How to for The NAV500/600.

So if you have the CD400 Follow Here...

The first thing you are going to have Get is the Tail Gate from a car that has DAB
it will have to be Complete with Looms in Place and not Cut
As all the Looms will be Needed to Swap Over to your car
The Receivers for FM and DAB will also be Swapped as well as the Glass.

By far the best way is to Buy the Tail Gate in Good Condition and the Same Color and Just Swap it over
At around £250 Complete Is about the Wright Price for that so its the More Expensive option Here.

the Tail Gate that i got the Panel was Damaged so i got the Lot for £75
Plus £50 to Swap the Glass from the Tail Gate to may car.

You can just Skip the Glass and Tail Gate
If you want and just Buy a DAB and FM roof Mast Ariel
but again there not Cheep and for a Good one there around the £100 mark,
if you do go with this Option just skip the First part and follow the rest.

STEP ONE..........

Get a Tail Gate and Remove the Glass first
i found a friendly Local Mobile Glass Fitter and got him to Remove the Glass first
as most of the Looms that are needed are Clipped in Behind the Glass
so you can not get them out Complete with the Glass in Place
i called him back when i had Swapped the Looms over to Refit the Rear Glass to my car
when i had everything in Place.

Note this is the Main Connector from the Tail Gate to the Body Loom
the rear washer Hose also Joins up here and must also be Disconnected
it just Pulls out and Pushes back in but be Careful it does not Leek when Refitting
its best to Remove the Interior Boot Trim to get Access to the Location
off this Connector just above the Fuse Box in the Boot
follow the FLEX floor Thread for Trim Removal.

STEP TWO...........

These are the Tabs you will need on the New Glass for the FM and DAB Receivers.

STEP THREE.........

This is the (FM Suppressor ZA) and Connects up in between the Heater Matrix.

STEP FOUR........

This is the (FM Module ZK) the Black Fakra Z Cable 1 meter
And goes to the (FM Receiver MA) at the Top of the Glass
The white Fakra z Cable 2 meters will go too the
Existing Female End of the FM Ariel Cable in the roof
that you unplug from the old Roof Mast Ariel.

STEP FIVE.........

This is the (FM Rreceiver MA).

STEP SIX.........

This is the (DAB Receiver ZR)
A 5 meter fakra z Cable Female to Female
will run from here to the front Module.

STEP SEVEN........

Both the farkra z Cables will run Through the Right Hand Side Gator on the Tail Gate
One to the DAB Module
And one to the FM Cable.

This is the old FM Cable unplug it
And Reconnect the new FM Cable from the Glass.

You can now Remove the old Roof Rast Ariel
And Throw it away as this now has no use
the FM will now work from the Rear Glass
so you can now put the Shark Fin on top
this has no Function apart from Looking Good.

That's the FM all Working now.....

This is the Point were you can now Follow
if you went for the DAB FM Roof Ariel Option.
.

You will need a 5 Meter Fakra Z
Female to Female Cable
one end will go to the Roof Mast Ariel
Or the (ZA receiver) on the Rear Glass
This Cable will go to the Front off the Car
And Come out very Near the Bonnet open Catch
in the front Drivers Foot Well
If you have a feel just Behind the Trim Behind the Bonnet Open Catch
you will Find a Blue Male Double fakra Connector.

One side will go to the DAB Module and one side is Blank
Join the Double Female End to the Double Male.

Place The single fakra Z Male End to the Female 5 meter Cable from the rear
the small Wire in the Photo below is not Needed.

You can now fit the DAB Receiver
Located just above the Bonnet open Catch.

You will find the Green Connector and the Black Connector
just above the Accelerator Peddle
Connect both too the Module
the Module is held in Place by a Bracket and one Screw

Your are now Ready for Programming and VCI codes.
The DAB will now Work,

DAB Module Part Numbers are
for the (Astra J 13319590 UBT.)
and for the (GTC 13362385 UBT.)
The Cradle for the DAB unit Part Number is (GM 13263525.)

AS WITH ALL ELECTRICAL HOW TOO,S.
you do this at your own risk if you follow the how to correctly
there should be no problems thank you.

Once you have all your parts you can then set about fitting the flex floor system
The first thing we need to do is remove everything from the boot and lower the rear seats.

We then need to remove the black pin from the top of the trim (there is one on each side)

Next remove the rear trim panel (simply pull at the bottom and once it's unclipped pull upwards).
*Take care not to break any of lugs that hold the clips like I did*

Then unfold the bracket

Once you've done that pull the trim out so you can get behind it, you will need a 7mm socket here there are 2 bolts to undo

Now you have a bit of room there is a metal clip holding a bit of trim on use a tool and get it in-between the two and prise them apart.
*You might be able to do without taking the 7mm bolts out but I found it quicker this way*

Once you have it starting to come apart then just give it a good hard pull and the other end will follow

Remove the rest of the trim and replace the two 7mm Bolts you removed.

Fitting the bracket is simple there is a metal holder that the bracket sits over

Bracket in place

then put the bolt in

Then fit the new piece of trim

fit the bracket cover

Refit the seat belt trim

Repeat for the other side.

Once you've done the other side fit the rear trim

Fitting the flex floor is an ass and will take two people, sorry not many pics of this.

you have to use a lot of pressure to get the pins to clip in then you use the bracket and screw to hold it in place

In and fitted

The dog loves it too

How to Install aftermarket head unit
Posted by: Rusty2009 - 21:st-Feb-2014, 17:12:37 - Forum: ICE - Replies (55)

How to Install aftermarket head unit

1. Make sure you have everything you need.

If you don't know how to remove the factory unit then please see my How-to Remove stereo Head Unit Astra-J.
If you want to change speakers at the same time please see How-to change speakers Astra-J

2. Remove the old unit.

*See note above*

3. The center dash control panel.
*I've outlined the control buttons we will need*

4. Removing the panels.
*For the top two panels all we have to do is pinch the tabs inwards and then pull up (These pull out from the back)*

Like so

5. Remove the heater control panel.
*There are 3 clips as outlined these unclip outwards (Best way is to unclip one at a time and push down on the panel)*

It will come out the front like so.

6. Aftermarket fascia
*Note I had mine painted up*
I used Paul from Dentzaway in Christchurch (For anyone in the Dorset area).

Installing the control panels is the reverse of taking them out.
*Top panels go in from the rear*

Heater control panel goes in from the front

7. The speaker that comes with the connects2 interface.

Install the speaker into the fascia
*I recommend you install it on the passenger side*
put it in from the top to the bottom or vies versa.

The fascia kit you need is one of these.

Titan Grey

Pearl Black

Silver

**The kit has everything you need included just select the correct patch lead.**

8. This step is for vehicles with 4 line dash display.
*The connector at the other end of the speaker will have 3 wires Yellow Green & Black*

*(Cut the Black wire and then insulate it)*
**DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU DON'T HAVE A 4 LINE DASH DISPLAY**

9. Any extra's you have like TV camera etc run the wire to where ever needed.

*I would recommend you get some wiring loom harness tape if you have a bunch of wires all going the same way this will cut down the work load, keep all your wires together & make it a make cleaner install.*
I ran all mine so they ended up behind the glove box used the A-pillar and roof.
Once I had all the wires in place behind the glove box (How-to remove glovebox) I got out the split conduit *I used 32mm*

10.Place all your cables into the conduit and then feed it round and about here and there and you will end up with this.

11. Before you go feeding all the wires into the head unit space there is one factory wire we need to take away.

*The wire from the stereo control*

you can tuck this away here

12. Then feed all your wires into the head unit space.

13. Connect the connects2 wiring harness to the cars harness

14. Then connect the connects2 wiring harness to the head unit harness

15. if you haven't already connect the connects2 wiring harness and patch lead into the connects2 control box

16. Put the mounting brackets onto the head unit.

17. Put all the connections into your new head unit and then push fit in place

18. Hook the mini speaker up to the connects2 control box
*make sure it all works*

19. You should have only 3 cable left to connect up.
*These connect up to the controls on the fascia*

20. Replace fascia starting at the top.

If you have any excess wire there is nice place to tuck them up out of way behind the glove box

that’s it all done now enjoy your new aftermarket head unit.

How to front and rear brake pads removal 5Door

How to front and rear brake pads removal.

Just thought I'd put this up as we don't have one yet.

Jack up and remove wheel from the car to gain access to brake.

Next take out the guide bolt from the bottom 10mm

you may need to slacken the top guide bolt no need to fully remove it

then pull the housing out and up

Tie the housing to something (although I didn't)

To remove the brake pad just pull it out towards you the back one pulls out away from you

remove the brake pad retaining springs they just pull down or up (give them a clean).

Refitting is the reversal of removal the guide bolts need to be torqued up to 28 N.M (21 lb ft).
If you need to push the piston back in Vauxhall use tool CH-6007-B but I find a couple of bits of wood and a G clamp is just as good.

Now for the rear

again jack up and remove wheel

fully remove the calliper vibration dampener 13mm spanner

again pull the housing out and up

there is not a lot of room here hence no pics but the pads pull out the same as the front as do the retaining springs.

Again clean the retaining springs
refitting is the reversal of removal the guide bolt and calliper vibration dampener need to be torqued up to 28 N.M (21 lb ft). Not having a torque spanner I just did the calliper vibration dampener up nice and tight.
If you need to push the piston back in Vauxhall use tool CH-6007-B with CH-6007-50 adapter these are wind back at the rear so you will need to wind them.

Thanks to JohnL for supplying the following pics on rewinding the pistons on the rear.

Not sure if you can see from the picture but I bolted the top of the calliper back up which held everything in place and allowed me to concentrate on turning the rewind tool. and not worry out holding the calliper and looking out for the brake pipe.

Total job took no more than 30 minutes complete.

Number 7 was used on the rewind tool.
