might be worth adding that on the GTC the electric window switches are screwed to the door panel from the inside, so do not attempt to try and pull them out.

Luckily for me the breakers yard left the switches on the door panels I bought and thus I could see they were screwed in place.

I'll update the pics this is all thanks to Photobucket.

The GTC is slightly different there is a screw holding the window switch on.

just to add on the GTC:

remove the long plastic trim on the interior handle, then remove the screw holding the switches in place, remove the switches and there is another screw holding the door panel to the door

Hi guys, i just replaced my speakers and put sound deadening on the metal door skin, and finished up and now my doors wont open from inside or out. I have to get in and out of the boot. What could be the cause if this? Central locking sounds like its working, the cable was connected to the interior handle (outside door handle should work even is this has come off). Stumped and basically cant use my car.

That is a strange one as you even if the inside cable came off you should be able to open from the outside.

So i eventually found the problem. After taking it to the auto electricians who couldnt find anything electrically wrong, i dismantled the car yesterday. Took all the seats out and then the door rubbers off and managed to remove the door trims with the doors still closed. To do this you need to make sure youve popped all the press connectors, and the pull on the rear edge towards the front of the car and it has enough flex to pop out from behind the metal of the bodywork.

Turns out the problem is with the little yellow connector on the end of the door lock cable for the interior handle. If the connector isn't seated 100% properly, it stops the door lock from working completely, even the outside handle. The difference between working and not working was as small as 1-2mm movement of the connector. It can go on  two ways but only with the 'fangs' on top does it work. They also like to move/displace themselves in the process/movement of replacing the door trim after theyve been connected. 

So from now on if i remove a door trim i'll be testing the door locks with a screwdriver as the striker to make sure they work before shutting the doors!

Pull the a-pillar off and then it pulls out IIRC there is no bolt on it.
