Over the past couple of days I've noticed a horrible noise when turning my ignition off. It only lasts for a second our 2 but it's almost like a grinding noise.. sounds like it's coming from the drivers side of the engine bay but I could be wrong. Car is a 2.0 cdti.

Decided to try the garage I bought it from as I've only had the car 10 weeks.. they've looked at it and reckon it's the AC Compressor... gonna do it as a gesture of good will even though they said it's a wear and tear part so I'm happy about that. Is this normal on a car that's done 38k miles?

Glad they are sorting it.
"Is this normal?" define normal as there is no such thing, every component is different and have weakness etc so while you would like to think it should last x amount of years or miles it may not. You don't know if the last owner had the aircon on all the time they drove the car, or if they never had it on.

So 3 weeks on and the garage are fobbing me off with this... they never get in touch and I struggle to get them. Spoke to them this morning and they are saying there are 2 variants of the part so they've not been able to order it (took them 3 weeks to tell me this!)... so.. I need the part number but don't know where to look. Can anyone help identify where the AC Compressor is on a 2.0 CDTI?
Thanks
Marc

Sorry I completely forgot to reply to you. Thanks for the offer but I ended up ringing a local dealership who gave me the part no. (Yes... only 1!). The garage begrudgingly through gritted teeth did the repair at the weekend so all sorted now.
