Welcome back to the VXOC FORUM.
Sorry for our lack of support over the last year but MYBB is back and so are we.
Let's get the forum buzzing again... (March 25, 2022)x
Thanks for the reply, very helpful and sounds like I need a lot of kit. I assume eBay is your fiend for sourcing these? I'd certainly make a trip to Bourenemoth as fitting would be well beyonsd my capability. Would this be a good starting point:
Yes ebay breaker yards are the place to look, always better if you can go and remove it yourself as you can get the important cables without them being cut.
So you may have heard ANDY from VXMODS has fitted the NAV,500 To my astra j today
i had the CD,400 as standard and Andy has done alot of research to make this work
so as his slogan says he is doing the things that Vauxhall and many others have said can not be done
everything works on the NAV 500 SAT,NAV and USB he also reactivated the Bluetooth and DAB
that i had already retro fitted so you will not lose the Bluetooth if you have already had it retro fitted it will still work
here is a before picture with the CD,400
here are a few random pictures of the NAV,CD,500 that has just replaced the old CD400 unit
DAY AND NIGHT MODE DISPLAY
this can also be set to automatic.
DISPLAY OPTION PICTURES.
I am over the moon with this retro fit
and its another astra j VX.O.C first
i now have the nav,500, USB, DAB AND Bluetooth and all are as factory fit.
i knew if anyone could do this it would be Andy from VXMODS
so if you have any questions or want more info on how this was done
VXMODS have there own section on here in the trader section
sure he will be working out prices for this retro fit very soon.
SO THE QUESTION CAN THE CD400 BE UPGRADED TO THE NAV500 on the Astra j THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS YES IT CAN.
So despite what you may have heard on other forums this is now possible
he also says the NAV,600 should work as well
Also if he can get the NAV,600 to work then there are retro fit software updates
to turn the NAV,600 into the nav800 and nav900 upgrade
so that will be very interesting.
i can also say if you use a second hand NAV unit
the NAV disc will already be installed on the NAV and all the info will be there when you swap it over
i did get the disc as well with this so i have if for back up.
also if you want the Bluetooth and DAB to work they will have to be retro fitted separate
and the USB will come as part of the NAV unit.
If you are looking for a NAV unit from ebay etc
you will need the NAV unit, the NAV screen, the correct front display, and the tray for the USB. and the shark fin for the GPS
ANDY CAN NOW DO THE NAV600 AS WELL
So NAV500 and NAV600 can be done Astra J and GTC.
I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE LOOKING TO DO THIS TO CONTACT ANDY FROM VXMODS FIRST
BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING....look in the trader section

Hello I have a CD300 with BT in my car (Astra J 2010). If I upgrade to CD500 or DVD 800 is a plug and play installation or I need to change cables and something else? The BT module can work with this new radio? Thank you.

Extra wiring and changes needed also programming. BT module will still work.

You current USB would need to be changed as the USB/AUX is combined, and it's linked into the SD port.
I'll look up the part numbers for you.
In terms of fitting I can fit and program to your car but I'm based in Bournemouth.

Hi, Fellow members..newbie here
I have been following this thread with interest, as i am in process of replacing my cd400 with cd600 navi.
I have managed to get most parts including the wiring loom from a 2011 (same as mine) astra j.
I have managed to connect everything on my workbench with external power supply and almost everything works. Just waiting for Maps sd card to verify that nav works as well.
My questions to you all are...
1/ when i install it into the car with the wiring modified as necessary, Will it require coding? (even though it worked on the bench)
2/ Any advice on aftermarket Aerials for the radio and dab. (thus avoiding replacing rear screen). Existing Aerial be replaced by Sharkfin for gps.
(11:th-Dec-2018, 10:09:50)Dee67 Wrote: come on guys ..nobody has any suggestions to my post?
I'm a tad confused by your post as the CD600 doesn't have Navi on it, it's just a cd400 with colour screen.
Do you mean navi600? It could very well come up as in theft protection mode in your car who knows your only find out when you fit it, I've had many units work fine on the bench which go into theft protection mode when fitted in the car.
As to your aerial question I can recommend the best one that will give you DAB+, AM/FM & GPS shark fin I've one on my car for ages and it's never let down don't be annoyed with the price.
Thank you very much for your response Rusty...
Sorry, I meant navi600...
Yes, I had to sit down when I clicked that link... ??
So, when I install it and it does triggers the theft protection can it be re-coded?
Thanks again
Rusty, I really do appreciate your input.. Yes, I think I might go that route with the aerial. Although I can get my hands on the amplifier and rear screen from where I obtained other bits.
Firstly, I am going to install everything into the car and then take it next step.
Going back to coding the unit to the car.. is there a tutorial for this?
What software and hardware needed?
I am quite familiar with coding and diagnostics on bmw, and some Mercedes...
For coding you need GM MDI not cheap and then you have to pay to sign up to TIS2WEB, then pay again just to request the VCI and then pay the VCI fee then pay again to program it.
TBH they amount it would cost you just to program the radio you'd be better coming to me or someone else with the gear already and the know how to bypass VCI.
Thanks Rusty, Would you need the car there or just the head unit?
I am based in the East Midlands.
If it's the head unit only then please pm me with the costs.
Cheers
Hi, again
I have connected this set up in the car and sure enough the 'theft protection' got activated. I took the car to a key replacement specialist who has some devices that would allow the Vin no. to be changed.
After changing the Vin no on Radio module and Bluetooth..'theft protection' disappeared and the everthing started to work except for the 'DAB'.
The Dab module was purchased seperatly from the rest but with right part no. 133 19 590 UBT.
When we ran the disgnostics on the modules.. 'Digital Radio' came up as not being present.
Does it need to be programmed in other modules? so it communicates? or could the DAB module be faulty?
I have checked for power and it is present at the plug.
Any help or advise be welcomed.
Cheers

Hello everyone, I have been reading a few threads about retrofitting better Vauxhall infotainment systems.
As I have seen, most of the posts are related to upgrading CD400 to some other. What is the case with CD300, I believe it shouldn't be very different from CD400? So it should also be upgradable all the way to Navi950?
Right now, there is a CD300 in my car, with bluetooth installed (I can connect my phone and make calls, but no audio streamin is possible).

Yes you can upgrade upto 950 but not without wiring changes and programming.
Yes, that's what I have learned, that it's impossible without rewiring and programming.
It's good to know that us CD300 peasants also have a chance to upgrade
Hi All
I have replaced the cd400 on my Astra J to the Astra insignia Nav 500 the problem is its not working there is NO power to the screen or Radio all the other ancillaries work like the heater(mega important) Eco button and door locks but NO Power to the screen or Radio???? puzzling thing is when I turn the ignition on the radio works for a few seconds then goes off OR it will stay on a random channel but im unable to adjust the volume or change channel as there is NO power to the screen or radio?? Please help its driving me nuts on my daily hour each way commute. Im in Bristol is there is anyone that can help. ( are the power connection pins in the wrong place on the connection plug?)
Without wiring changes and reprogramming you have no chance of getting it to work. The wiring between cd400 and cd500 or any factory Nav is totally different, in if it came out of an insignia all the buttons will be mixed up in use.
NAVI950 , DAB+ & Rear Camera , quick heat, auto lights and rain sensor retrofit

Thank you JP
I have replaced my old unit CD400 back into the car but that's not working either, though it did work ok when I took it out ? ? NO POWER at all to the unit?
Do you know anywhere near or around the Bristol area I could go to get it fixed please.
Check your fuse, disconnect and reconnect the radio. It will work without the control panel attached. Shouldn't be anything major if it was working before. Daft as it sounds sometimes the car gets confused.

I checked the wiring and found that the rear right speaker was going to earth, so I disconnected it from the back of the radio harness (pin No 41 white wire)
I reconnected the radio console and turned on the ignition and checked the heater, fan, aircon, door locks, anti skid and hazard lights which all work fine.
Turned on the radio and nothing but the screen has power because it flashes every now and then, but alas still no sounds or CD operation. does it need re programming I wonder? or should I just cut my loses and get a after market one fitted?
Thank you for your time in replying to my questions very good of you.
I have reconnected the speaker wire back into the unit. when tested it still go's to earth Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Im now going to replace all the radio connections back into the car and try the battery off trick off as suggested. failing that does anyone know of where in the Bristol area I can go to get this sorted please, even if it means getting a after market one fitted NO sounds or radio on my hour each way commute is driving me MAD now. please help with a solution.
the cost for the retro fit is in my trader thread, theres
2 prices for supply everything including parts and supply whether you
supply the setup or i do.
Where are you stationed please I have a Nav 500 to replace the 400, it has USB but not Bluetooth. I have no radio or CD function at the moment which is a bit annoying but if you can fix it for me I would be very grateful. I am in the Bristol area. Thank you
