Exclamation Service vehicle soon???
Posted by: k1ckboxer - 7:th-Aug-2020, 18:41:08 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (3)

Hi chaps,
Im looking for a bit of help here please...

I own a 2014 GTC 1,4 sri which developed a fault last week. Was overtaking and suddenly there was a loss of power limp mode and got the 'service vehicle soon' light show up. So drove car straight to the garage to be checked out. Fault codes P0229 (boost pressure) and C055C (steering box power performance failed) the outcome was turbo had blown due to oil being too thick as i hadn't had it changed for a while so i thought yer fair enough. So new turbo, pipes, filter, oil and flush cost a few quid but while driving home from garage the exact same thing happened again?? Obviously im going to take it back to the garage but any help would be really appreciate please. cheers

  AC Compressor clutch broken
Posted by: rlievens - 7:th-Aug-2020, 10:11:47 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (2)

Hi Guys,

Its been a long time, which is a good thing I guess because it means I haven't had any problems with my car Smile
I have one now...

The spring that detaches the clutch from the AC is partly broken.
It's this part below. One of the 3 metal colored springs is broken in two. Because of this the clutch doesn't disengage well and makes a not so nice noise when the AC compressor turns itself off. AC works fine otherwise but I'm sure the clutch is wearing off way too fast now.
[Image: A-C-Compressor-Hub-for-Opel-Astra-J-Meriva.jpg]
Should be an easy fix (except it uses pentalobe screws but I'll find me a screwdriver somewhere) but I can't seem to find the part. I found and ordered one for a Astra H in hopes it would fit but its a few millimeters too large.

Can you guys help me find the part please? I should be shipped to Belgium.
Can't seem find it second hand as they will allways sell the whole compressor not just one part.
Astra J - 1.7 CDTI 110HP

Thanks

Ok, strangely enough I did manage to find the right part on ebay now for a reasonable 35 GBP after shipping.

Now I need to find 5-lobe Torx bits and hope the old part comes off when it needs too Smile

  DRL Replacement - Snapped clips
Posted by: Marc_81 - 3:rd-Aug-2020, 17:07:33 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (1)

Finally got round to replacing my DRL bulbs to some that are a bit more white. One issue.. i stupidly managed to snap the retaining clips on one side. The holder feels OK without them, and obviously the plastic cover is on the back. Am I likely to have any issues.. is this repairable at all??

On the plus side the Maruta (formerly MTEC) bulbs seem to fit OK and give off a nice white light. I have MTEC super white headlight bulbs which I've always found to be good. Plus they were a lot cheaper than PIAA bulbs.

Cheers

Sat nav unit, from insignia? Not fully working?
Posted by: Macauleyh96 - 2:nd-Aug-2020, 17:21:56 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (10)

Hi,

I bought my 2013 Gtc 2.0l about a month ago. Absolutely love it but the previous owner must of fit what I thought was an aftermarket satnav/touchscreen unit but apparently it’s from an insignia? The touchscreen works fine and the satnav does too and SOME of the speakers work... but the center console buttons don’t work, not a single one of them do anything? The only way I can control the volume is on the steering wheel buttons (which all work fine) the speakers in the doors don’t work and maybe a few More? And also the Bluetooth will not connect? Also the screen shows the time wrong, the temperature wrong and the radio station wrong? [Image: 1a285b7680a0653779903c27b789135a.jpg]

Is this an upgrade that will actually work? Has the work been done wrong, is it something as simple as something not being plugged in right? Or am I best off buying the standard unit and fitting that? I’d love to keep the touchscreen and satnav in it if I can get the rest working?

Any help would be appreciated!’

P0128 2 weeks after replacing temp sensor
Posted by: JonathanLondon - 2:nd-Aug-2020, 16:18:15 - Forum: Vauxhall General - Replies (4)

Hi

I have a 14-plate 1.6 Astra Auto.

Recently got the "AC Off Due To High Engine Temp" warning, and an OBD II dongle said it was a P0128.  At the same time the temp gauge went to minimum.  Checked under the bonnet and the fan wasn't running even though we watched the coolant temp run up past 90C.

I'm no mechanic, but my local independent garage swapped out the engine temp sensor, topped up the coolant, cleared down the error code, and everything was back to normal.  Indeed after driving home from the garage, the fan was running and the coolant was around 80C.

Two weeks later, and the warning has come on again, on the same journey at the same point (about 20 mins from cold).  I doubt the new sensor (genuine Vauxhall part) has failed.  One additional clue is that on both occasions, the car had been washed a few hours earlier, but I really doubt that it's water ingress causing the problem.

My guess is that may be there's a loose or damaged wire, and that replacing the stat was a temporary fix.  The car has done less than 30,000 miles.

Any clues?  Torn between taking it back to the local (friendly and very helpful) independent garage, or taking it to Vauxhall (which will be difficult as I am avoiding public transport due to the virus).

Thanks!

Got me a new workshop space!
Posted by: umognog - 2:nd-Aug-2020, 06:28:29 - Forum: General Chat - Replies (2)

So this has been a long time in planning, but on Friday I finally received the keys to my new house Smile

As part of the purchase, it actually came with the site sales office as a double garage giving me some near 50sqm on workshop space (approximately 7mx7m in size).

The bare concrete floor requires sealing and I'm considering putting down a two part epoxy flooring and wanted to ask about if anyone had a) any experience of this and b) knew of an epoxy supplier in the UK that also supply "flecked" flooring? I'm kind of liking a gloss black with a light glittery type flecking to it (it would help with future plans.)

Astra J. Can a tyre valve be replaced without replacing the TPMS?
Posted by: benawhile - 31:st-Jul-2020, 21:13:45 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Common Problems - Replies (2)

I have an Astra J hatchback, 2015 reg, I think it is “pre facelift” but not sure.
It has slow punctures on both off side wheels

My tyre garage (Formula 1 Autos) told me that air is leaking from between the valve body and the alloy wheel seat.
They say that if I can get hold of replacement valves they will replace them. They say that this will not involve disturbing the TPMS.

Are they correct?
Is the TPMS separate from the valve on this car? All I can find are combined TPMS and valve units.
Is it worth just screwing the nut down a bit?
I have heard of “screwed type” and “clipped type”, TPMS which type do I have?
Do I have manual learn or auto learn?

I have attached images of

1. Mine in place
2. Version A available on internet looks like mine
3. Version B on internet. Is this the same as A but with the securing nut removed?
4. Valve only, with no tpms, is this designed for my car?

A large reputable local tyre fitter, Micheldever Tyres, have a universal tpms device called an i-smart, does anyone know anything about this brand?

  Check Number Plate Lamp Warning

Replaced both blown bulbs this morning and are working fine but the "Check Number Plate Lamp" error is still coming on when ignition turned on. Any ideas?

Cheers
