HOW TO FIT AN ANTI DAZZLE REAR VIEW MIRROR.
You will Have to find a Second Hand Auto Dim Mirror on eBay
If you can get the Small Loom that Goes too the Mirror
and the Console in the Headliner with it Also as it is needed.
If not go to your Local Dealer and Order one as you do Need it
you wont Need the Surround as this Can not be Fitted to the Glass
Unless you Replace the Front Windscreen.
Remove the Console from the Headliner
There are Three Panels to Take off
Then pull the Light Unit out.
You will Then see a Connector Attached to the Roof
This is the One you will Need.
Connect the new Loom to this Connector
Pull the Other end of the Loom
Through the Front of the Headliner Toward the Mirror
The Picture of the Loom Below is the One you Need
It will Have Three other Connectors on it
For the Rain and Light Sensors
That go to the Mirror Surround
As these were Not Needed i Cut them off
but you Don't have too if you Don't want to.
Remove the Plastic Cap that Covers the Mirror Screw
that hold the Mirror onto the Windscreen
Take the Screw out and Remove the Old Mirror
A Toque (T20) is Needed.
Then Refit the New Auto Dim Mirror
And Plug the Connector in Place.
You now have a Working Auto Dim Anti Dazzle rear view Mirror
so when a car Drives behind you at Night the Mirror will Darken
so you don't get Dazzled by there Bright Headlights.
This worked Plug and Play on MY11 Spec car
but Remember it only Works in the Dark
when the Sensor Activates and Turns the Mirror on.
i Believe Fuse (15) in the Rear Fuse Box
Supply's the Power for the Mirror to Work
The Three Wires are
(Positive), (Ground), (Reverse Light Positive).
If it wont Work just Ask
I know off Another way to Wire it.
You can Add a sun Strip to the Front Windscreen
to Hide the Small Wire that will be on Show.
AS WITH ALL ELECTRICAL HOW TOO,S.
you do this at your own risk if you follow the how to correctly
there should be no problems thank you.
tucpal & Rusty2009 Guys can you please give me a diagram of the connector attached to the roof mentioned above in tucpal's post. I have a crazy idea to hook up in the empty space the reverse monitor Is it possible? That monitor needs 12v so can that cable offer 12v? Thank you all
Rusty2009 & tucpal I was just about to ask tucpal for a diagram, I searched & didn't finde anything. I have a multimeter & was preparing to get the Amps ill wait for your result Rusty, but if you can find a diagram pls post it here. Thanks again guys.
Rusty2009 Welcome back dear Rust Thank you for the diagram. A stupid quick question, to mesure the amps on pin 9 do I have to cut that wire to put both ends of the multimeter to get the reading of the Amps? What I see on YouTube is that they cut the positive & mesure on it... Im still learning how to play with electric components Oh dear I just figured it out Im so Newbie ) Just have to touch the connector then the other end to the monitor red wire
no need to cut it mate. as a thought do you have auto lights/wipers? If not you could get the loom extension part number 13378813 remove all the wires not needed (the two greens and 1 purple) cut the light/rain sensor plug off and then you have the power and ground wires with no modification to main head-liner loom what so ever which can also be removed if you sale the car etc.
Hey @tucpal so what's this other method for powering that mirror as you say there should be a pin in the rear fuse box for it... As we know I don't have a rear fuse box lol
all you need is power and ground for it to work
rusty may tell you where is best to get it
sure the mirror only uses about 2 amp so a ten amp fuse wire will be needed

Every connector on the car will have what is called a "pinout" what this allows you to see is what every pin on a connector does.. Whether it's data, live power or something else.. Sometimes you'll be missing a few pins from a connector (usually when your car wasn't built with a specific feature and you're trying to add it) so with a pinout you can see what you have and what you need to have (or add) to get something working

hi can you put some pics of the cable you have got for us to look at the color wires
while you are waiting for us to work it out you better get some 10amp wire from halfords
red and black
wires are positive, ground and reverse light positive.
but colors are needed
so one wire goes to a ground position
remove the glove box and you will see a bolt with a nut there remove the nut and attach the ground wire
power can be taken from the fuse box by tapping into a 10 amp fuse
using a piggy back fuse with 2x 10 amp fuses in the piggy back
so you need a 10amp fuse
and a piggy back fuse holder

You could Autovaux but you find they would also have to order it from Germany.
Other than that look on eBay for someone braking a J.

Thanks bhalay207 do you also know how to remove the casing that is on the windscreen? i dont know how else to describe it but if you look at the windscreen from the outside you can see the part i am talking about
i dont want to yank it off and end up breaking the damn thing. my mirror is loose so thought i could open it up to see if i can fix it. never mind but thanks for your input

The casing is clipped on pull off from the bottom and then you need to push it up as it hooks over at the very top. it also comes in two parts which again also pulls apart.
It's a pain the butt to fit back on and you have to be careful not to bend the thin plastic clips as they are very flimsy.
I did a car that had it's windscreen replaced by autoglass and they just bonded it back with sealant (they didn't break any clips).

Hello there! I have an Insignia and today I bought an auto dimming mirror for Astra. As I know many components are the same at both models, Astra and Insignia.
The problem I have is that I don't have the same wiring as you, neighter the connector. So the things are little more complicated. So I ask for your help.
As you can see there is no connector.
Indeed the mirror it's a little... bigger.
This is the connector from the mirror.
I have a greeen/white cable, I guess for the reverse signal.
Then a violet/green for ground and another cable un balck colour, for ground.
This is the only connector inside.
What do you recommend me to do?
Take power from the existing connector?
