CD400 TO NAV500 UPGRADE

So you may have heard ANDY from VXMODS has fitted the NAV,500 To my astra j today
i had the CD,400 as standard and Andy has done alot of research to make this work
so as his slogan says he is doing the things that Vauxhall and many others have said can not be done
everything works on the NAV 500 SAT,NAV and USB he also reactivated the Bluetooth and DAB
that i had already retro fitted so you will not lose the Bluetooth if you have already had it retro fitted it will still work
here is a before picture with the CD,400

here are a few random pictures of the NAV,CD,500 that has just replaced the old CD400 unit

DAY AND NIGHT MODE DISPLAY
this can also be set to automatic.

DISPLAY OPTION PICTURES.

I am over the moon with this retro fit
and its another astra j VX.O.C first
i now have the nav,500, USB, DAB AND Bluetooth and all are as factory fit.
i knew if anyone could do this it would be Andy from VXMODS
so if you have any questions or want more info on how this was done
VXMODS have there own section on here in the trader section
sure he will be working out prices for this retro fit very soon.

SO THE QUESTION CAN THE CD400 BE UPGRADED TO THE NAV500 on the Astra j THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS YES IT CAN.

So despite what you may have heard on other forums this is now possible
he also says the NAV,600 should work as well
Also if he can get the NAV,600 to work then there are retro fit software updates
to turn the NAV,600 into the nav800 and nav900 upgrade
so that will be very interesting.

i can also say if you use a second hand NAV unit
the NAV disc will already be installed on the NAV and all the info will be there when you swap it over
i did get the disc as well with this so i have if for back up.

also if you want the Bluetooth and DAB to work they will have to be retro fitted separate
and the USB will come as part of the NAV unit.

If you are looking for a NAV unit from ebay etc
you will need the NAV unit, the NAV screen, the correct front display, and the tray for the USB. and the shark fin for the GPS

ANDY CAN NOW DO THE NAV600 AS WELL
So NAV500 and NAV600 can be done Astra J and GTC.

I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE LOOKING TO DO THIS TO CONTACT ANDY FROM VXMODS FIRST
BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING....look in the trader section

So would you be able to source and fit the Nav 600 or is strictly the 500 model available?

mrobins64495 Wrote:So would you be able to source and fit the Nav 600 or is strictly the 500 model available?

it all depends whats available,to be honest it maybe more easier if people
sourced their own setup and i just charge for the fitting and
programming.any setup can be fitted.

i must point out to everyone clearly that issues have to be
expected on the programming side of things as if VCI code
is required at the time then opel may refuse to supply as
due the setup being from a previous car and you have to
understand from a security side of things that opel may
not give that support but this wont be known until the
retro fit has actually been done.
Reply

Basically cars from 2009 to 2012 per face lift don't need VCI codes, so they will not be a problem
as they can be programmed with the MDI with out asking Vauxhall for codes
Vauxhall introduced the VCI code request system some time during 2012
this means things like Bluetooth DAB USB need a code sent from Vauxhall to activate the item
you may be trying to add to the car
but Andy needs to find out if cars after 2012 will need a VCI for the NAV
or will they program the same as my car and VCI codes may not be needed for the NAV unit
if a car asks for a VCI code for the NAV then you may not be able to do it
Then again they may well give the VCI code and all may be OK

Did you have to change some electric wiring or was it a stright swap?
Reply
#13
aditional and altering of wiring is required

pretty easy wen you know how

Reply
#14
I've got a 14 plate with DAB and USB already. Is there anyway to find out if I will require a code?
Lot of money for it not to work.
Reply
#15
not till he programs it
Reply
#16
yeah is lot of money if it doesnt work but i cant see it
not working as the fist retro fit was a success so
cant see why the future ones wont be

I really want this done, but it's a bit risky for something that might not work...I'm looking at around £600 right?

I'm going to be keeping an eye on this. Really want to get it done on mine. Guess I better get putting some over time in.

Do you think Vauxhall would void the life time warranty on the car once it's fitted?
Reply
#25
The only thing that would not be covered is the head unit and screen, don't forget lifetime warranty doesn't cover wiring anyway.

one thing i will say here after having the NAV500 fitted for 5 days now
is the sound quality is amazing compared to the CD400
i know i had the DAB done at the same and that is amazing but even the FM sounds
way better it is as if the speakers have just come to life.

i am so glad the CD400 has gone :cool

It's funny you say that as I always thought the sound in my Elite sounded better than the VXR. I was led to believe the cars with CD500's had better quality speakers fitted but perhaps that's not the case.

i have upgraded the speakers to alpine already
but the cd500 has improved the sound for sure.

that is a shame i hate it also when people let me down
so who wants the NAV 600 fitting then andy has all the bits so let me know if you want it done

I'm very interested but don't have the cash to do it at the minute. However if he's after a test car. To prove it can be done and then removed afterwards I'm more than willing to put my car forward as it should give people more confidence that the later cars can have it retro fitted

hi all

the cost for the retro fit is in my trader thread, theres
2 prices for supply everything including parts and supply whether you
supply the setup or i do.

Reply
#48
So that is £180 to fit and program if you supply your own NAV600 or NAV500 etc.
or £625 if Andy supply's the NAV600 or NAV500 and that includes the fitting programming.
