Intermittent Power Loss - No Codes
Posted by: Astranought - 27:th-Apr-2021, 15:14:34 - Forum: Mechanical - Replies (10)

Hi. The car is a 2010 1.6 Petrol Exclusiv 113 - 64000 miles. From cold it runs perfectly but after a few miles it is intermittently loses power under load  - going uphill or accelerating hardish. It feels more like a general reduction of power than loss of individual cylinder(s) but I'm not sure on that. No codes are displayed while the fault is occurring and there are none stored, according to my local garage. I've read elsewhere on the forum of similar problems resolved by a fuel filter change and the garage mechanic suggested that may be the issue but then discovered that the fuel filter isn't a replacement part on this model. It's integral to the fuel tank?
I have changed the plugs but not the coil pack as it looks like it has been changed before - probably by the previous owner trying to resolve the same problem. But wouldn't a faulty coil pack yield a code?
I'm on the cusp of selling the car at a substantial loss because of this but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts?
Thanks in anticipation.

Has my Astra-J got a selective bulb failure warning system?
Posted by: Big Dave2 - 27:th-Apr-2021, 13:22:41 - Forum: Lighting - Replies (7)

My Astra-J is a 2013 (63 plate) Elite model.

It seems very selective on telling me what bulbs have failed.

It has previously let me know I had a failed number plate light, DRL, dipped beam, and a brake light (no, not all at the same time )

However, it didn't inform me that I had a failed tail light bulb (one of the two pairs in the hatch), or more recently a high beam bulb.

Yes, I know you can't beat visually checking for yourself, but the bulb failure system on my old Vectra-C Elite was absolutely brilliant. Not only did it monitor EVERY exterior bulb, it also told you exactly which one had blown by putting a picture of the car on the stereo screen and saying that it was the LH brake light, RH front side light, etc. The Astra-J just says, brake light failed, but not telling you which one. Typical Vauxhall and their cost cutting measures.

Not having driven the Astra in darkness for over 6 months now until last Saturday evening (due to various lockdowns) I've no idea when the offside high beam bulb had failed. I initially thought that I couldn't remember the lights being this bad. It was only when I got out and looked that I had realised the OS headlight bulb was out.

So, are all Astra-J's with the bulb failure system like this, (i.e. very selective) or has mine got a fault?

  The 21 day insurance myth

The 21 day insurance myth

Hi,

There's a partial myth going round that the best time to buy your car insurance is 21 days before expiry.

I say partial because while it may be true with some of the comparison sites (who'll likely increase your quote if you buy close to expiry), there are some other quality providers that don't adopt these tactics or penalise you for leaving the purchase a little late.

With Chris Knott's offering to car clubs and enthusiast groups, it doesn't matter whether you buy 21 days before or at the last minute. Our quotes are valid for 30 days, so if you get a Chris Knott quote 21 days early we'll honour that price right up to your renewal date as long as nothing has changed.

Because we factor your best alternative quote into the process you can even call us the day before expiry and we'll use your lowest quote from the last 30 days as the benchmark to beat (subject to seeing proof).

So don't just accept a high quote because you've left it a bit late and think you're out of options - give Chris Knott a call.

You can request a quote callback at:
https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/carquote/?ref=191

or call us when you're ready to go through the quote:
0800 917 2274 (please mention this forum)

best,
Nick

  coolant pressure tester
Posted by: chuzzle359 - 14:th-Apr-2021, 18:23:08 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - No Replies

I'm thinking of buying a coolant pressure test kit to investigate coolant issues on my 2010 Astra J - These kits seem to come with a variety of radiator cap adaptors so does anyone know if there's commonly one for Vauxhall/Opel in these kits ?

Engine oil level low ,Add oil
Posted by: Rocky33 - 14:th-Apr-2021, 12:56:53 - Forum: Mechanical - No Replies

Hi everyone ,interested to know if someone have had this issue before ,Yesterday i was on a motorway  , warning came on the dash board "engine oil level low add oil ,the first thing i did obviously was to check dipstick level and it showed the level was fine .I had already booked the car for oil and filter change this saturday before this warning ,last oil changed was 5K km /6 months ago.i did lot of short journeys last 2 months so decided to have it changed after 6 months as oil life  is sitting at 12 percent.after checking dipstick,i initially thought it could be the moisture in oil which might have evaporated and sensor might have acted funny but now after little online search ,i have seen that it could be a faulty sensor in oil pan ? This is the first time ever happened in 3 years ownership of this car.Do you think i should ask garage to change oil sensor ,is it expensive labour job ? I dont see any fault codes so not sure if its worth spending the extra changing the sensor if it is working fine ,i dont see any oil leaks inside or around engine bay ,so far it has happened only once ,does it point towards something serious if it is not just a sensor?  Engine is 1.7 CDTI  ,A17DTS ,Mileage 136000km Thanks Guys .

Please advise - Z16LET engine (1.6 turbo, 132 kW) - is it a direct or indirect port?
Posted by: UseThe4s - 13:th-Apr-2021, 09:21:23 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (2)

Hello guys,

searching a lot I was not able to find if the Z16LET - 1.6 turbo, 132 kW petrol engine is a direct or an indirect port engine. I suppose that this 180 HP engine that was used in the 2nd gen of Astras H an then in Astras J is an indirect port petrol engine. And I suppose the 200 HP 1.6 turbo petrol engine that came later is already a direct port engine. Can anyone please confirm or specify this? Thank you.

  Air Con Hiss
Posted by: Craig2305 - 12:th-Apr-2021, 17:46:16 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (3)

Hi

My air con has started to make a hissing noise when it is switched on and is no longer cold. Is it worth trying to do a top up or is it likely I have a leak?
It’s a 64 plate and done 46k miles. I’ve never had it topped up before.

Thanks
