Replacement discs and pads
Posted by: Iamthestig - 7:th-Jul-2017, 23:43:09 - Forum: Mechanical - Replies (3)

Hi,

Firstly, great forum with loads of useful info.

I need to replace the front discs and pads on my 2.0 CDTi. Eurocarparts list a few brands to choose from, one of which is Brembo. Is it worth upgrading to Brembo discs and pads with standard calipers? The price difference isn't much so I'm tempted but I don't know if braking or longevity will be improved - does anybody have any advice/experience?

Thanks in advance.

  GTC Coolant temp sensor
Posted by: chris_yorks - 7:th-Jul-2017, 20:39:42 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Common Problems - Replies (2)

Hi,
Daughter's 2012 GTC had what I thought to be a faulty coolant temperature sensor. Error shown on display and fan running at full speed constantly. Purchased a new thermostat with sensor included and connected it to the cables (before going to the trouble of fitting thermostat to engine block) to test.
The same error was still shown on the display, and the fan ran at full speed.

Sensor resistance very similar to the fitted one. (17 ohms) at room temperature.
Appear to be getting voltage at the cable plug.
All seems as it should be.

Is there a way of resetting the error.

Thanks

  The dreaded Space Saver
Posted by: AndyKay - 7:th-Jul-2017, 17:30:58 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (2)

Every time I buy a new car, the first thing I do with it is to check what sort of spare it has - if it's a space saver I buy a full size spare to match the other alloys. I now have a cellar full of brand new space savers, and I have never had a puncture!

My current Astra Tourer SE, purchased nearly a year ago has been the only exception. As I've been puncture free since the 1970s when I had my first Vauxhall (Droop Snoot (Magnum) Sportshatch 2.3) , I left the space saver in place. Mistake.......! I had part of a wagon's braking system impale itself in one of the rear tyres, destroying it beyond repair!

I had to use the space saver! Never again - I need a full size spare! Can anybody suggest the best option? I have looked for a wheel the same size as mine...... 8J offset 46, tyre 235/45R18....... without success!

Any advice would be more than welcome please.

  Spedometer Polish
Posted by: Farrael - 6:th-Jul-2017, 15:51:56 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (2)

Hi!

I've a litte doubt about the spedometer on Astra J:

I've already polished the Right and Left side of the spedometer (Miles and Revs) with Meguiars PlastX with good results.

I didn't polished the center, where is located the IPC, because I don't know if it is the acrylic or LCD. I Think it's plastic but i'm not sure.

Anyone can confirm this?

I saw an image from this forum where Rusty2009 is replacing LED's from the spedometer and looks like there's a plastic above the LCD:

Thanks!

Edit: Sorry, wrong section... I saw there is a Detailing Section...
