  Low cost recovery service
Posted by: Dennis S - 24:th-Jun-2017, 12:40:16 - Forum: General Chat - No Replies

Just this week I had to have my Astra recovered after it had broken down 8-10 miles from my home.
First time I've ever had to use a recovery/breakdown service.
I'm with Start Rescue, I found them on Compare The Market. Only cost me £18.79 for the year.
The breakdown lorry arrived within half an hour and took my wife and dogs home before taking my car to the local Vauxhall dealer.
I would recommend them if you're looking to save a few quid on your breakdown cover.

Sliding boot cover doesn't stay in place
Posted by: zzattack - 23:rd-Jun-2017, 19:10:37 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (1)

My siggy is a sports tourer so it has this extractable boot cover, and I believe it should somehow lock into place when it's fully extended. Mine however retracts by itself and never stays put. It feels as if some notch or hook has broken off.  Rofl
How does this work? Anyone got a pic of how the mechanism should look?

  Roof wrapping gloss black
Posted by: twinpipes - 22:nd-Jun-2017, 21:30:56 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (3)

Getting the roof wrapped gloss black on a new red gtc, wonder how to remove the large shark fin aerial from the roof so to do it all together, the fin i think covers the main aerial. Is the fin stuck with 3m tape. It is the new larger fins , also found on the new insignia.

GTC body kit, color advice needed
Posted by: twinpipes - 22:nd-Jun-2017, 21:20:51 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (3)

Buying a new astra gtc in red as shown, but getting a few things added, front and side maxton design diffuser and side skirts in gloss black. Fitting csr rear diffuser which i will have to get sprayed black to.
Was adding a lower bottom boot spoiler as in last picture that i bought  from csr as well. As the top one comes with the gloss black strip on the edge as standard, question should i do the lower boot one (last pic) in the car red color or black gloss to match other bits, any views welcome please.

"Stop Vehicle Immediately Engine Has Overheated" Advice appreciated please
Posted by: Dennis S - 21:st-Jun-2017, 19:46:39 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (25)

Hello, thanks for allowing me to join your forum.
I have a 2013 Astra Tourer Auto 2.0 CDTI SRI which I'm very fond of and have owned since Sept 2016.
It's been faultless in the time I've owned it, and has done about 54000 miles, normally goes very well, and has full Vauxhall history.

Today, however after an 8 mile drive at fairly low speeds it broke down.

I had just negotiated a roundabout when a message came up on the display "Stop Vehicle Immediately Engine Has Overheated"
I pulled  over and lifted the bonnet. The coolant and oil levels were normal - it was just serviced at a Vauxhall dealer recently - and the fan was on. There were no leaks underneath.

Re starting the engine, it sounded not well at all, very rattly.

My car was recovered on a lorry to the Vauxhall dealer in my home town.
As soon as the recovery driver started the engine, the temperature gauge went up to maximum with the same overheating warning on the display and "binging" noise. Even though the car had been sitting for about 25 minutes with the engine off.

So I'm waiting for the Vauxhall dealer to give me a diagnosis tomorrow. I'm really hoping it's not terminal !

Has anyone on here experienced anything similar with their Astra ?
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
