Posted by: everson38 - 7:th-Jan-2018, 17:16:02 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Technical - Replies (12)

Hey guys

I have a astra J 62 1.7 diesel.

I noticed today a suction / hiss noise. Looked in my engine and saw duct tape wrapped around a pipe and could feel air escaping, this was obvs put there to try patch it and then there was oil residue over it / over my radiator fan / surrounding arwas as if it's be spraying it out.

(Will attach video links)

Video 1:The duct tape over pipe
https://youtu.be/_0Ciw7VBhrs

1) Could someone please tell me what this pipe is / does?

2) Is the oil residue and this air leak linked together.

3) Is this an easy fix or not?

Thanks guys any help would be truly appreciated.

Posted by: everson38 - 7:th-Jan-2018, 13:37:04 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Technical - Replies (7)

Hey guys need some real help.

So even when there in the slightest tap makes them Unscrew which not safe for road. Has anyone had this problem. I'll attach pics of the screws.

PLEASE HELP AS WORRY I'M GNA BE HERE ALL NIGHT.[Image: fc2832a1527de21901074cf350de10c1.jpg][Image: d8a58469dafb6f29dfe872c779aef530.jpg]

Hi, I've just joined, having bought a 2013 SRi 1.4 T in Technical Grey, all standard, but pleased with it so far! Looney

My last VX was a Mk 1 Astra 1.6 GL with 5 sp gearbox - it was the business then - how things change!

Hey guys

Have a 1.7 diesel 62 plate astra J.

I am planning on jacking up the car over the weekend. Does anyone have any imagery regarding lifting points / also any tips or things to look out for when lifting this specific model car? As I know sometimes things don't run as smoothly as the manual says lol.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks again guys

  Gearbox Oil drain plug?
Posted by: shabba - 3:rd-Jan-2018, 16:22:43 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (13)

My mate nearly rounded off the drain plug which is shaped like an allen key, fortunately he stopped before this happened.

Which has resulted in me not getting my gearbox oil changed.

Anybody know the correct size I need to undo this or where I can purchase the correct size from?

Cheers

Hi everyone. I'm Terry, live in Flitwick and I just thought I'd make myself known to you guys. I have been into cars ever since I can remember, I had an old mark 6 escort that I modified, got in a bunch of magazines and car shows etc. I then had a 350z that was rather low... I have however always had a Vauxhall whilst owning other cars, Nova's, Corsa B's, Corsa C's, Astra H's and now a GTC.

My last car was a 1.9 CDTi Astra H, but someone rear ended me just before Christmas, so I decided to buy myself a Black 2012 2.0 CDTi GTC with a bunch of optional extras such as full heated leather, Navi600, park sensors, 19s, LED rear lights, electric handbrake etc.

The car has the 19" alloys but I have just purchased a set of 20" VXR wheels. They are currently being refurbished so should be on the car soon.

I have also updated the Navi600 to Navi900 thanks to the thread on here. Was easy to follow, I just had a little trouble with the CD image burning part.

Other than those couple of things, I have not done too much else yet.

I do need to fix a couple of items, these include:

- A small water leak into the boot (RHS between the two metal skins behind the bumper. I inspected whilst being sprayed with a hose. I could see water pooling but no idea where from. It literally just appears as its no streaming down from anywhere.)

- Passenger wing mirror cover needs replacing

- Passenger vanity mirror cover needs replacing.

- Replace the brake discs and pads all round. I believe GTC's are 321mm front and 292mm rear?

After that I may invest in an Android unit to replace the Navi600. I find Navi600 okay, but the lack of Bluetooth is a real bug bare considering my last car has an android unit that could do anything. So if anyone has any recommendations that would be great?

Anyway. I look forward to chatting and getting involved on here. If anyone lives near to Flitwick, it would be good to meet fellow Astra owners.

Astra GTC auto gear knob replacement
Posted by: Jayrich872001 - 2:nd-Jan-2018, 12:57:29 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Common Problems - Replies (12)

Hi Iv got a 2014 Astra GTC Auto, I’m after some advice, Iv spoken to Vauxhall themselves and they want £300 for a replacement gear knob.

The rubber on my gear knob has worn and split, also in the recent snow my car got stuck and while flicking from reverse to drive to rock the car out of a ditch the button on the back of the gear knob has snapped.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement for a more reasonable price, and how to fit the replacement.

Many thanks

Jay

Putting the J back on the road
Posted by: CraigSRi - 2:nd-Jan-2018, 10:44:07 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (7)

After about 11 months I have decided to put my J back on the road. During the time it's been stood its been on the drive but only started on average maybe once a month.
The handbrake has been off the whole of this time but the car has only infrequently been started and moved a little.
The brake discs and pads had maybe done 1k miles only before I took the car off the road but now look very rusty.

My question is this - is it possible that the brakes will still be operational and indeed pass an MOT?

The MOT expired during it's time stood so it'll need to pass an MOT as soon as I can get it booked in.
I have priced up a full set of discs and pads and can replace all relatively cheaply, but obviously would prefer not to have to.

Thanks for any ideas/advice, Craig.
