Yes also interested. Can't quite figure out why a new vxr does not have this has standard. I am aware that they can be fitted to other cars. So any info would be great.

Hi Rusty2009,

The new focus ST does not have them either, I had a 13 plate ST at the time. I find it hard to believe that with new exclusive type cars they can't just fit them as standard so much better than what they do do fit. I know for the Focus ST you can purchase gas struts for them, so if anyone can help with the VXR that would be great.

Cheers

I did some measurements yesterday. The tailgate struts will be too long need some shorter ones similar to the Vec B. There's a bonnet rubber adjuster in the way for long struts

1, 42.5cm
2, 35.5cm
3, 28.5cm
4, 40.5cm
5, 30.5cm
6, 19.5cm

I was thinking of either position 2,3,5 or 6

2,3,6 are too steep, would shut I don't think
1, 4 something would need to be done with the rubber
5 is looking good

1 is best but they might be able to supply a bracket to step it to the side of the rubber

Where did u get that pic from?? The strut would need a lot of PSI as it would be heavy.

It would shut down nicely

This is from a Vec B which uses 2 struts. I can't see the Astra bonnet being heavier than a Vec B

This was one of the first things I noticed when I bought my GTC, after buying the zafira tourer, which has gas struts, I thought it was a given that the GTC would have them. Never crossed my mind that I could fit them aftermarket. I will be watching this thread for more info. Keep up the good work fellas.

You could get a little business going if they fit lol, lots of people would be wanting them, obviously at a special price for fellow moderators hahaha

Received the Vec B hinges yesterday and had a quick look. The hinges are bigger than the original so I think adapting might be quite hard. I should be able to use the rams though

Would they be safe enough when it is windy. When you think about what we have now, which is at the front of the bonnet it can control both directions of push from wind, but a little short ram would have a lot to contend with being at the back of the bonnet, and therefor a lot more work for it to do to hold the bonnet steady. I don't want my head chopped off of my windscreen smashed for that matter.

Thr Vec B uses 2 rams which I intend to use and they easily hold a Vectra bonnet which is heavier

It will still be secured at the front though just the way it's held up instead of the stick

I was meaning when the bonnet is up. If the wind gets hold of the bonnet with just those short rams holding it, at the back of the bonnet, that is a lot to expect those stays / rams positioned there to do the same at keeping the bonnet in the up position as opposed to the stick which stops the bonnet both going further up and through the windscreen or coming down on your head.

Yeh , the Vectra had it then it didn't , my last H had one my SRi J doesn't . .

Far canal you couldn't make it up . You can wrongly assume that once a feature is on a Vx that it is there to stay . Similarly , there is no sport button on the J. .

I am sure they were removed to get a higher rate in the crash tests as they can enter the cabin in a crash and a front one is safer or something like that

Those brackets don't look to healthy also the struts don't seem to give alot of assistance when lifting the bonnet.

I've emailed a company that manufacturers struts, brackets and strut ball joints just waiting for a reply.

I've been looking at the Insignia setup
