Hi all,
I need to change my tyres and thinking of whacking on some winters over the next few months.
Thing is, the 225/50/17 seems such an expensive size.
Can I change it to 225/45/17..?
If so, any impact to the car, drivability, stability, etc?
It's a 2011, 2.0 Diesel 5 door.
Thanks

I would be more stable
But you would loose a bit of driving comfort and you would make astras already big space between tire and fender more bigger

(This post was last modified: 15:th-Oct-2018, 11:11:41 by Big Dave2.)
I made a saving of around £15 a corner by simply just changing the speed rating from a 94V to a 94Y when I got new Bridgestone RE050A 250/50/17's recently.
Apparently a Y rating is more common, so it's cheaper than a V rated tyre.
You can go up in a speed rating, but not down from the recommended value.

personally, i would stick with a 50 profile, i had 45 profile on an Astra coupe and took it up to 50, far more comfortable on British pothole ridden roads.
