Welcome back to the VXOC FORUM.
Sorry for our lack of support over the last year but MYBB is back and so are we.
Let's get the forum buzzing again... (March 25, 2022)x
However pleasing the car is to drive there are a few things I would like to change (if possible)
1. LED Headlight conversion (factory or Aftermarket best??)
2. 19" Wheels (Good or Bad???) it currently has 17" but need refurbing
3. I would love to get a better exhaust as the standard doesn't really have any noise, I only want a little burble nothing massively loud but can only find VXR or GTC Units available?
any help would be greatly appreciated as im new to all this, only just got into fixing things for myself without a garage doing it.
also see below pics of where it is now and hopefully with your help will be much better soon.
I'm using a USB 2.0 cable with an iPhone 7 and all of a sudden a few months ago, I was no longer able to plug my phone in to the USB slot to play music. I am now receiving the message 'No supported audio formats found'.
I've tried with other cables and also had a local garage take a look who confirmed that there is power, and it did in fact work with some of their devices. The person at the garage said it is most likely because the car is 6 years old and inst up to date with iPhones/iphone updates. He suggested finding an after market system which is more up to date and will play USB but I dont know much about cars and am also not very technical, so I was looking for any advice anyone can give on fixing this issue or point me in the right direction of an after market system.
I've been unable to find a decent bluetooth device with good sound quality and connection and I'm hoping to fix the above issue.
So I would like to say HI to everyone on the site. I am very recently a Astra driver. The wife and I are expecting twins from mid-September.
We have had to trade in her 5dr Corsa D to get a much bigger car that I keep calling "The Daddy Wagon", much to her disgruntlement as she keeps reminding me that my car is worth nothing (2002 Audi A3 1.8t). I try and remind her that if we weren't having twins she could have kept her car...but I get the blame for the Twins as well , ah well never mind.
I am a bit of a VW-group fan, having had few Golf's and Ibiza's, but really cut my teeth on (original) Minis. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty if I need to, but I must admit I prefer to polish the metal work these days!
So I join the club with a 64reg, 70k, 2.0 cdti, Carbon Flash Astra J Sport Tourer Elite, which I am disappointed does not come with DAB or phone. Guess which articles I will be reading .
I would like to thank all the contributions made by members as my car didn't come with an owner's manual, it is nice pressing a few buttons and seeing what they do. For example, on mine, and apologies if this is already know, when the rear demisters is on, the door mirrors are heated. It really does help getting to know the car.
I also think my modding days are over, but it is nice to see people just don't settle for what comes out of the factory. I particularly enjoy the How to's on swapping the instrument lights to LED.
I am going to sign off now and do some digging on TPMS as I think the wheels have changed position in the past and the car reports the wrong pressuresfor that given location.
Hi guys, just recently picked up a 2013 SRI Astra J and am really pleased with how well the 1.6i petrol performs. It's a big upgrade from what I am used to and glad I could finally get an astra after looking for one for a very long time
So I have a 2016 GTC 1.4 SRi Turbo, and just made my first couple of purchases so pretty excited, DTE pedal box en route LED DRL's also. Remap next I think pretty excited. This forum really gives you the bug
In this How-to, you'll see how you can replace your dinky single horn with a Dual horn.
Without removing the front bumper.
It seems Vauxhall decided that it was a good idea to put single horns in on a randomly select few Astra J's, no one knows why!
Cause it sounds like a clown horn on big cars like these!
So lets fix this!
Part number for the horn:
GM 13409130 "HORN,ASSY.,400/500HZ" (or look up Astra J horn on Ebay)
Step 1:
Jack up your car, lift it or drive on ramps. (Be careful with ramps as the front end is rather low.)
if you look in the newly made hole, you'll find the bracket that holds the horn in place!
step 3:
Removing that clown horn!
Reach in from underneath and disconnect the horn's electrical connection.
you can then undo the single bolt holding the horn in place.
Once that bolt is out, the horn can be pulled out from underneath the bumper.
Step 4:
putting in the better horn!
Slide the dual horn from underneath the bumper. You can then hold it in place and bolt it in place form the fog light hole!
Once it's all bolted in, connect the electrical connection. test it out!
step 5:
put the foglight surround back in by reversing the tutorial mentioned in step 2
That's it!
Now your fat Astra won't sound like a Corsa B, but like a Insignia instead!
First of all i would like to apologize before hand about my poor English, it's not my native language!
I was amazed by the extensiveness and well organised this forum is compared to most vauxhall forums!
So i immediately wanted to join this community!
I've owned all generation Astra's except for the MK7.
Every single time i picked the 1.7 ISUZU block as it's my favorite little Diesel engine ever since it came into production!
My first car, the mk3 (1994 Saloon GLS 1.7TDS):
Lovely little workhorse had her for many years, but rusted like hell and the turbo was on it's way out!
The MK4 (2001 Comfort 1.7DTi):
Had quite some fun giving this car a OPC look! but had leaking injector seals, and overall it didn't drive very fun as the rear end kinda sways everywhere... That and i backed up into a pole, which ruined the rear end pretty badly!
The mk5 (2007 Estate 1.7CDTi)
Didn't enjoy this car very much, it felt very cheap.. the paint was very poor and everything rattled. This was probably their worst model in my opinion, crashed it after owning it for 3 month! Don't miss it one bit!
And the current Mk6 (2013 cosmo 1.7CDTi 96kw start/stop):
Quite a lovely design, and i love how they upgraded the quality significantly compared to the mk5.
I avoided the pre facelift models as they still have the older generation m32 gearboxes.
That and the front end of the facelift looks quite allot prettier in my opinion!
Quite love the AFL bi xenon headlights on there! That little dance they do is awesome. But i must say the adaptive high beam is rubbish, it reacts way too late and i end up blinding people easily. So i leave it off!
The heated leather seats do sadly suffer from the well known faulty wiring, but i don't bother as i've never found myself using heated seats ever.
THe navi 900, whilst okay for general use..I was quite amazed that a 2013 car does not have bluetooth audio streaming. A huge letdown! But i use a thumbdrive for now.
I did have one major issue with this car, i had a severe waterleak comming from the left side roof rail. It soaked the spare tire well and fried the towbar module.
Dealer thankfully repaired it all under warranty as it still has warranty till november
Now onto the modifications i've done so far!
-Added the little shelf, apparently they don't fit these to facelift models anymore.
Dealer quoted me 125€ (100 ish quid), so i went on ebay and bought one for 10€
-Replaced the horn with a dual horn!
That awful dinky little horn, how on earth did they decide this was okay on a full option cosmo... Went on ebay, bought the GM dual horn for 20 quid and replaced it!
Quite easy to do! Pull out the left fog light and you'll have easy acces, no need to remove the bumper.
So a Few weeks ago i bought my first GTC its a 16 plate and so far I'm happy as the proverbial pig, great car fun to drive. A little under powered at the moment but a remap should sort that so just thought I would introduce my self and say hi all.
