If money were no object then I'd go for Mich Cross Climates, excellent for all year round use.
I'm running with two sets, winters & summer tyres.
RS2's are decent for summer use (made by conti). Maxxis are decent too, may last a little longer than the RS2's. Some of the newer Nexen tyres are good, bit better than the 8000's. I wouldn't bother with part worn tyres, I usually change my boots when they're down to 3mm. Starting with 5.5mm, does not leave you a lot to play with. Then there's the condition of them to consider too.
