Now I know there has been various discussions on here regarding retrofitting remote start on the J but no one really knew how to do this. It turns out a company called Secure my Car offer this feature and more (search them followed by Astra j in YouTube and you'll see a demo). I contacted them for a price list anyway and got this reply:

We have two systems available for your Vauxhall. We have our Viper canbus alarm upgrade with dual proximity sensor. This works digitally through your existing Vauxhall fob. The package comes with a dual proximity sensor with warn away and a shock sensor.

Over the past 12 months we have seen a large surge in the number of Vauxhalls, Fords and BMW’s stolen through key cloning across the UK. To achieve this thieves first utilize your factory alarm’s black spot by smashing the corner of the drivers door window to gain access without triggering the factory alarm. The cars OBD port is then accessed, a specialist hand held key cloning device is plugged in and within seconds a new key to your car is programmed. The thief then simply unlocks the car with the new key, starts the car and drives off. Currently the most predominant areas targeted are Essex, London/greater London, Northampton, Manchester and Birmingham.

With over 15 years experience, we have specially designed a system no other company in the UK offers which has been tried and tested by us in house. Our specialist canbus modules work by piggy backing onto your cars complex digital electrical system and therefore your Vauxhall warranty is NOT affected.


What makes SecureMyCar ltd unique? 

We've also designed an OBD port immobiliser which activates only when the Viper alarm is armed. With Vauxhall firmware installed onto the alarm, the Viper system independently immobilises and communicates digitally to the car so you won’t be able to deactivate the Viper system or start the car with your original Vauxhall remote, rendering key cloning or theft of keys void. When disarmed the OBD port is open and free to use for diagnostics which will not affect your vehicles electrics whether factory fitted or after-market.


What sensors does this package include?

Firstly, a dual motion sensor which beeps to ‘warn away’ anyone from the vehicle, covering the all important black spot in your Vauxhall OEM system. Secondly, an impact sensor which activates the alarm if the car is hit in anyway. There is an option to add further sensors which are detailed below.


How does it sound?

Featuring a fully adjustable 1-6 tone cycle siren, the Viper system is much louder than your factory alarm, at a whopping 120db!


Do I receive a separate remote?

We include a 2-way 2000 foot range LED paging key fob. If your system is activated the pager will beep and flash according to which zone has been triggered and will also confirm your commands virtually instantly using the GhostLight LED structure. Range can be upgraded to our 1 mile LCD remote if required.

Installed onto your car, the SmartStart feature allows you to track and control (including a host of other features) your vehicle from anywhere in the world securely via your Smartphone. As the system is connected to your Viper alarm you will receive real time updates and should your alarm be activated, your Smartphone will mimic the sound of the siren through the application. The annual SmartStart service plan can be purchased from us at an additional cost of £99 after installation. Please note when making your booking we do require a £150 deposit (£250 with any trackers) which can be paid by debit, credit card or bank transfer to secure your allocation. A 2.5% surcharge is applicable to credit card payments. Cancellations can be made up to 4 days prior to your installation date for a full refund of the deposit.

Yea £500. I wouldn't go first, but i would definately be interested if someone else did and it worked great. I'd love to have it.

you know you can easily disable the OBD port to stop this type of theft just remove the fuse from the fuse box
for the obd2 port easy to get around but may make a few thieves run and leave it alone
but looks like a good system to have

What do you mean mate? We aren't on about stopping theft but on about getting the auto start feature via key fob added to our cars...

Having a diesel I'd probably use remote start every morning while I eat breakfast to let car warm up!

Yeah id use it for that too @tonto also at present I'm messing around sitting in it and defrosting it for ages in the morning when I'm running late! I'd start it when I wake up from the house and get in it and it would be already partially defrosted and warm!

Im lucky when i do actually have a car. Its under a carport well actually its kinda under my spare bedroom. I have a weird house lol
