Hi all, I have an Astra J 1.6 petrol, 27,000 miles, great car, had it 1 month now, after driving the car when it is switched off it makes a ticking noise, (it starts off really fast and gradually get slow) it lasts around 5 mins, its coming from underneath the car, i think its the exhaust/catalytic converter cooling? Is this normal?? I have searched online and a few people say that its quite normal. Its just annoying more than anything else, did call the dealer but they wanted £75 just to listen to it!!!! Anyone else's do this?? Thanks in advance.

Hi
I also have the 1.6 petrol and you can hear the exhaust pipe contracting once the engine has been turned off. I don't make a point of listening to it though, but quite normal on lots of cars I think

I know on the 1.3,1.7 & 2.0CDTI models you get high pitched pulsing tone when you turn off and remove the key which comes from the fuse box area in the engine bay.

Haha I think it's just on a shut down / start up cycle if you have the bonnet open once the tone stops go and open the driver door and it will start again.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was the same. When I first heard it I was sat there like !
On a separate note, does anybody get a loud ticking noise, almost like a relay tick coming from the glovebox area when they start theirs?

Not that I've noticed but will listen when I leave work today and see!
I've noticed when I first start car in a morning and it's warming up I can hear a belt moving, not sure if normal but had it replaced when I got car as I thought it was odd. Still does it though!
