I would like to know that what sort of miles your getting out of a full tank..
Im struggling to get 400 miles out of the full tank and my mate at work has a 2.0 and get around 600miles out it and I'm wondering if i have an issue i don't know about.

A 1.7 has to work harder to pull almost 2ton of car than the 2.0.

Its power to weight. Smaller engine x heavy car = More fuel burnt

It's only 1.4ton, not quite 2ton lol.
I never run mine empty but today for example my range shows as 78 miles left and I've covered 443 miles on this tank & il fill up tomorrow.

Remember there are a few different 1.7 CDTI engines 110bhp 125bhp 135bhp start stop etc and driving style boy racer or saint driving around town and motorway will also differ MPG as said you are best to work your own MPG out and try to better it by working out if altering your driving style may improve it

Agreed with Tucpal.
I changed my driving style and my mpg and miles per tank shot up from 450 to 600+.
The best thing to do is keep the revs below 2000rpm where possible and try to make your way through the gears as quick as possible without ragging it.
It's difficult because you have to concentrate on all of your gear changes etc.
