  2014 J Elite
Posted by: craigpd - 15:th-Jul-2019, 15:55:42 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC Common Problems - Replies (4)

Had the car roughly 3 months now, and there's 3 things that are driving me somewhat bloody insane.

First off was water getting in and sitting in the spare wheel well in the boot. After a return to the dealer they said it was due to the grommets for the brake lights, they replaced both sides just to be sure, and resealed. Or so they claim. Going in again now tomorrow as there's still water getting in behind the n/s brake light and sitting in the access panel on the boot lid (So I get water dripping on me head like a right spanner when I get the shopping out the boot)

Next up is a real doosey, and it's getting to a point where I'm ready to just tell the dealer to take the car back, and it involves the driver seat. Full leather interior, with bucket seats up front. The problem is with the Driver's seat base. The left side of the "bucket" seems to move around and squeak something awful whenever any weight moves on the seat. Which it tends to when I'm driving, and on these roads it means it's a constant overpowering noise. Seat had been stripped and "adjusted", and within 4 days, the problem is back, not only back, but evolved! Now I can feel the entire centre portion of the seat move underneath me when going through a corner, along with a satisfying "thud" when moving. Going to be bringing this up again, was promised a new seat base under sales warranty should the problem persist.

And the third is to do with the radio surround, where my leg rests when off the clutch, it's basically up against the surround trim, squeaks and creaks and pops a little.

I accept there's little I can do about a knackered seat, but what fixes can be done for the water ingress? (assuming the dealership still can't fix it, and I am assuming that) I feel like the problem almost certainly involves the guttering for the brake lights.
As for the surround trim, would sponge-packing around it be enough, or would something more substantial be needed to prevent any movement and thus squeaking?

Hi all I’ve recently bought a 2011 Astra j 2.0 cdti sri and I would like some help please. I want to improve performance and power and was wondering where a can get performance parts or even if I actually need to get performance parts such as turbocharger, air filter, radiator, inter cooler, fuel injectors, coil overs and any other parts I may need. I know about remapping and tuning box’s which I think I’m going for a remap. I’m kind of new to this stuff so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

The new model astra: my time with astra has ended
Posted by: umognog - 3:rd-Jul-2019, 15:54:49 - Forum: Medium cars Astra, Cascada, Vectra, Monaro & Insignia - Replies (9)

Being in the market for another car, I read with interest that PSA has announced an engine & tech refresh to the Astra.

I love my J, it's an amazing workhorse.

So I was very, very disappointed to read the engine options from PSA:

Petrol - 1.2 & 1.4, all 3 cylinder options
Diesel: 1.5 unspecified cylinders.

Well. I was looking at a petrol, as it's a city short journey runner, but I despise the 3 cylinder. Had one before and never, ever again! Bugger that.

Didn't think I would say this, but when the J gets scrapped in the future, it's by by Vauxhall & thanks for 25 years of driving.

Playing with an android head unit at the moment, struggling to get the buttons working on the CD400 so I guess I have lots fo reading to do here to find out what is wrong.

CD400 buttons not working Android head unit install
Posted by: mephisto - 2:nd-Jul-2019, 23:03:34 - Forum: ICE - Replies (4)

Hi guys,

I've got a android head unit installed on my Astra SRI 2012 and I cannot make the buttons from the CD400 work. I've got a shop in SE london to do the installation, but it was their first android head unit like that installed on an Astra so I think they missed something.

My unit is similar to the RV5754 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32811421...st=ae803_5 and everything else seems to work fine, except the buttons on the panel.

I researched a bit and it seems there is a plug with a single brown wire that should be plugged into a cable and may be the cable on the back of the CD400 that is the closet to the driver's side. I'm just trying to understand better what actually needs to be plugged where, so I'm collecting bits that I've read here and there. Is this cable used previously used for the old screen connecting it to the CD400?

Any advice is much appreciated!

  2.0 CDTi SVS/Limp mode :(
Posted by: hooper - 2:nd-Jul-2019, 17:41:43 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (8)

Hello all

I recently bought a 2013 2.0 CDTi Elite. 35k on the clock.

On Saturday (hot day) it went into limp mode with the Service Vehicle Soon message. Engine was running at normal temp.

Took it to my local garage yesterday afternoon and they got back to me this afternoon.
They cleared the message and took it for a road test.
- Car temp went into the red and triggered limp mode again.
- One cooling hoses was red hot, the other stone cold.
They are going to continue looking into it tomorrow as well as send me the error code.

I normally drive the car 40 miles per day on A roads ranging between 40-80mph, mix of eco-driving and fun.
I recently fitted a DPF signal light (as per the guide) and it has come on once in the last 2 weeks and completed the cycle before I got home.

Car came with 6 month dealer warranty but they are refusing to pay for 3rd party repairs/diagnostics.
The garage is 2 hours away.

Any ideas?
