This How to will Show and give you Information
on How to fit FOOT WELL LIGHTS..

OK for this How to you will need to get Two
LED lights one for the Driver’s side & one for the Passenger’s side
I used a 48 Led Board like the Picture below.

I can Recommend the above LED Units they are Really Bright
and have Lasted a year now
They and cost about £4.
You can find Links on eBay
You can also use LED Strip Lights if you wish.

STEP ONE...........

Buy some cable 5 AMP.
Make sure they are two Different colors one for Power and one for Ground
just so you Don't get them mixed up.
Next step Tap into the Ambient Light Circuit
for the Courtesy Lights Power & Ground
This will mean the Foot well Lights will work the way the Courtesy lights do.
Open the Door they will Light up
close the door they will Fade out
Press the Button on the Courtesy Light in the headliner
and they will Come on and Stay on till you Press the Button off.

First you need to Remove the Glove Box
follow the How To

how-to here for glove box removal

Now you have the glove box out.

Look just Behind the Fuse Box
and Pull the top Left Hand Side of the Carpet back
and you will see Three looms there.

The loom that you want is the Loom
that Goes up the A Pillar to the Headliner.

You need to Remove some of the Black Insulation Tape to get to the Wires on the Loom
& find a (GRAY) Wire there are (THREE GRAY WIRES) you need the (THICKEST ONE)
that is the Positive Wire And then Find a Black Wire
That is the Ground for you LED’S.

STEP TWO...........

Splice one Wire to the (Positive, Grey) and One Wire to the (Black, Ground)
make sure you Have the Correct amount of Wire
you need to Reach the first LED in the Passenger side.

Look around for a good Place to fix the LED LIGHT
I Fixed it with zip Ties to the Heater Blower vents
then add the Power & Ground to the LED Light
It will now Work just Open the Door or Press the Button on the Light Unit in the Headliner
and the LED will Light up But Keep the LED
Out the way of Passengers Feet so it Does not get knocked off.

STEP THREE............

Remove the Side Trims from both Sides of the Center Console they just Pull off.

Now Splice Two Wires from the Wires you have just Done on the Passenger side
And run them Through the Gap in the Center Console to the Driver side
and Add the Two Wires to the LED
Again I zip Tied the LED too the Heater Vents just above the Peddles.

Now make sure Everything is taped up
and all safe & all Neat and Tidy with zip Ties Tape etc.

ALTERNATIVE OPTION

You can also Take Power from the Console in the Roof if you like
so Remove the Console from the Headliner.

How-to remove courtesy light can be found here

Again you will See one Grey and one Black wire on the Connector.

You add the Two Wires from the Connector & run them Through the Headliner & Down the A Pillar
heading to the Passenger Foot well you also can Pick this Loom up Here
And Pick the Grey & Black Wires out from the Loom if you Remove the side Trim.

RESULTS

So now that is it all Done
you now have Foot well Lights.

As always Need any help just ask Thanks.

It is always Best to Solder the Joint you have done when Splicing into any Wires
on the car and then Shrink Wrapping them this will Insure a Neat and Tidy and A Safe joint.

***NOTE***

Take extra Care when Picking out the Gray Wires from the Loom
there are Three and you need the Fattest wire..

As with all Electrical How too,s you do this at your own Risk
if Followed Correctly you will have no Problems.

Nice one mate,

You also added my method which gives users the option.
I have had a look at the roof light but can't find how it comes out of the roof lining. I have had the covers off both the front part and the back part, but the middle part looks very tricky as there is very little loose cable to move that part around. I don't want to damage anything. I am wanting to connect a wire into the gray one for foot well lights.
hi mate
i found it easier to remove the glove box
and take the power from the loom there
if you follow this thread you will see the roof console will just pull out
http://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-AUTO...-retro-fit

sure rusty will add how he got the light unit out for you.
I'll get a howto over the weekend.
How To remove courtesy light has been done can be found here
tucpal have you got a link to that SMD panel board on eBay? and what sort of wire did you use for this? Just speaker wire ok or a different one? I did something similar to this under the side of the doors but they no longer work, no idea why...
here you go
these have been in the car now for over a year
and still going strong
White T10 BA9S Dome Festoon Adapter Panel 48 SMD LED Car Interior Light Bulb 12v | eBay

i used 5 amp fuse wire
but speaker wire should be ok.
i want this this at some point looks so good Smile nice guide mate
I have done mine today, and while I was doing that, I completed the front door puddle lights. I used the heavy grey wire that lies behind the fuse box which is behind the glove box. So that is all finished now and looks fab.

Right have been on and off the forum for the last couple of weeks as work has been mad and been sorting out house etc but back onto the car now and been looking at footwell lighting in either blue or same colour as the led interior lights. Can anyone recommend?
Cameron UK sent me a link to some the other day, imported so take awhile but cheap. I've gone for red so everything matches. Also got some bright white for boot including an extra one. I'm sure he'll post some links.
the same as i have used in the how to there very good and still going strong after nearly 2 years Thumbs

http://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-how-...ELL-LIGHTS
Cheers guys appreciate it.
your welcome Wink_1
They are the same as I used the only thing I would say is they do get very hot and the sticky pad will come away if they are left on for a long period.

If you have your door/s open for a while just turn the interior lights off, also for the glove-box one you might want to put a connector in so it can be unplugged whenever the glove-box is removed.

I found finding the panels in blue a pain and they are dearer than the red so if you do find any can you let me know please.
Agreed there use zip ties to fix them
Will do guys
Great write up Tucpal, I have installed the identical footwell LED's this afternoon after finally braving the cold to get outside and do it. I managed to memorise your instructions and go outside and do it in one hit. Will go outside tonight when its dark to admire my work. My partner's 13 year old son asked the other day if the car will be pimped up like the other boy racers around Winsford and go whizzing down the high street. The answer was 'no' lol.
Anyway Tucpal, thanks again bud, top marks.
thanks they are a real good feature even if you go for white they make the car much more welcoming when you open the door Doublethumbs
My led's have arrived so hopefully attempting this in the next few days, as well as finally getting rear parking sensors finished Tongue
Haha hope it all goes well for you this time dude!! Big grin how you gonna get that screw out then?
Same here mate, just pick up some more wire from then sorted. I'm going to 'TRY' and use the rubber band method. Hopefully that will work and I can use the screwdriver properly as I'm going to take the wheel off Smile
Nice one! You'll defo have more luck with the wheel off anyway Smile. I'm still waiting for @tucpal to put a tutorial up for the rear door pocket lights! Ha. They just came from china the other day but not sure how to get the wiring all the way to the back doors...
I haven't even thought about rear doors yet lol!
i will do this week as i am off work so i have the time now lol
Nice one mate! I'm getting a little worried about all this wiring I have with no soldering though...haha
How on earth did you get your hands underneath to splice wires...
