Navi and Eco question
#1
Hi guys, just new to the forum and new to a fancier Astra than before (G to H). I currently have the cd500 sat nav unit in my Astra, if i was going to upgrade what units would fit? Not looking at Android ones at the moment just a query.
Also with some models i notice that there is an Eco start/stop function, mine doesn't have that. Is there any way to fit/activate that? Cheers guys

Welcome to VXOC.

In terms of factory fitted units you could go navi600/900 or even 650/950.

Aftermarket you'd be looking at the many Chinese units (there are loads) or even a double din.

As for stop/start I very much doubt you would get a VCI to load the software, there would also be loads of extra wiring sensors unrated parts such as battery alternator IPC etc.
Astra-J 2.0 CDTI S/S
Retrofitted AFL, TPMS, Navi950, BT, DAB, Rear Camera, Infinity sound system, Towbar, Flexfloor & more.
I can do programming and retrofits using genuine GM MDI and Dealer software.

Thanks Rusty the S/S was just a wee wonder, a Nice to Have so to speak. However, i have heard of loads of folk turning them off as they are a pain in the backside so not having it is maybe not a bad thing tbh.
Onto the other Navi's, would they just be a straight swap or would i have to match it up to my car? Sorry i'm not sure what the abbreviations mean VCI etc. Any chance of a legend style list for us newbies, or is there already one and i haven't came across it yet?

I actually don’t mind the s/s took a bit of getting used to at first.

Wiring wise it’s all pretty much the same 600/900 has SD port for maps while and a joint USB/AUX port.
650/950 Just has a USB & AUX port.

You would need the main radio box, screen & buttons.

They would need programming to your car now 650/950’s can be done via the post whereas the 600/900 would need to be done in person.

Yes I knock a thread up with the abbreviations in really good idea that.

Thanks Rusty, quite happy with what i have at the moment but like everything else you sometimes yearn for that little bit more lol. Out all the navi set ups what one do you reckon is the best?

the best unit in my opinion is the 950 as its got pretty much everything built in Bluetooth etc and the maps are better (in my opinion)
NAVI950 , DAB+ & Rear Camera , quick heat, auto lights and rain sensor retrofit

I've had navi600 & 900 just got 950 and 950 is by far the best only downfall is on the 650/950's you cant install custom POI's

Didn't know you could do that, thats handy. I had a Garmin Drive-smart in my last car, still have it and was impressed with the mobile and fixed speed camera warnings. Haven't came across cameras on my travels yet to see if the 500 picks them up. I'll need to look into adding personal speed camera POI's if it doesn't already have them then. One question though, if i add them will the system warn me about them or will it just be treated as a landmark POI like a bank or vauxhall garage etc?

I'm not sure how the CD500 system works for POI's.
