Head Unit Options - GOKIWI - 8:th-Jun-2016

So I have done a little bit of digging around for options regarding replacing head units etc.

ICEBOX M072 with DAB and aerial approx. £400
Retrofit DAB to CD400/400+ approx. £200
Aliexpress MTK3360. approx. £200
Aliexpress "Kanor" approx. £370
Aliexpress RFG7002 approx. £180
Aliexpress Q7882A approx. £250

None of the Aliexpress units list DAB as an option though.

IceboxAuto has at least 2 other units as well for the astra J. C072 and another one which is about 100 quid cheaper

No but when I asked the guy who owns icebox auto about whether that one was better or the M072 he said this

"Hi Dayle, my honest opinion is the M072 is still a better unit. The factory who make them, the internals, processors etc are always better. Our data shows, firmware from the factory of 5.1 is given out more than the M072 to resolve little bugs. Always fixed i may add.

My preference, Id stick with M072, graphically, the OS looks more pleasing to the eye."

Ok, I ordered the 5.1 Android model already, I have an Eonon aftermarket model now, which did not fit very well into the 2-DIN frame (or actually I think it was the frame that was not made to the standard I reckon), so I wanted to go for an model that was made specifically for this car instead.
I read the whole thread through regarding the M072, but decided to go for the newer Android version, also I liked the design better without the SD card reader next to the screen.
Will be interesting to see when I get the device, should be an easy install.

I just fitted the Drive Audio unit. Satnav, Bluetooth , ipad/iphone interface, reverse camera, dvd player, cd player, usb interface, etc. Cheaper from Car-Vision.co.uk  who will do the entire package for about £600 - and fit it for you for free if you prefer. DAB is extra.

Just seems absurdly expensive considering you can get the M072 unit for 300 which does all that same stuff plus runs Android apps

ok, I got the unit yesterday, installed it quickly this morning, I will post some pictures later on.

To those of you who are using the M072, can you adjust the volume with the CD300/CD400 buttons ??
All those buttons are not functional right now, maybe I forgot to connect some wire..

Another thing I miss, which I can see others have with the M072, is the USB converter, that plugs right into the stock USB socket in the Astra J.

RE: Head Unit Options - sheppy1 - 15:th-Sep-2016

Yep you can use ALL the factory buttons without issue. And so you didn't get the extension cable then?

I did not receive any USB extension cable, that fits into the Stock Astra J USB socket... and maybe I missed some wires, since the factory buttons do not work.
