Reverse Camera wiring - sheppy1 - 5:th-Feb-2016

Hey all

I've ordered a reverse camera to go wit my new head unit (when it arrives) and it requires power from the reverse light itself...Now I already have my reverse parking sensors wired into this reverse power light...So would it cause too much power draw to have the reverse camera wired into this same power cable?

Cheers

I think the current consumption of camera is max. 150mA .. don'r worry just do it. Smile

Hahaha I like your style! When my car bursts into flames... Then I'll worry [WINKING FACE] second question... The wire I already have from the reverse lights to the aftermarket parking sensors box I have... Will that be safe to splice into or should I splice right into the source (reverse light power cable) again?

The park sensors (20-200mA) + reverse camera (50-150mA) in worst case around 4W.

It doesn't matter, you can do the splice wherever it is easier for you.

And how much can that reverse wire give out before it becomes an issue? Never been good with electrical stuff! Ha. Okay brill! Thanks for that [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

I'm actually thinking of disconnecting the sensors as there's no real need for them if you e got a camera

i would not trust a camera alone keep them it can handle both the cam and sensors

If you have a wire 0,5mm2 (square millimetre) it can take almost 8A and 0,75 more than 10A.
Back-up lamp 16W and additional 4W (for park sensor and camera) -> less than 2A.

Huh...well you learn something new every day! But... What if there is a fuse on the end... That would limit the amount of power that could be drawn wouldn't it?

Nope the fuse is there to protect the device from blowing incase of overload the fuse goes first
