  Parking sensors, missing switch?
Posted by: carolef1984 - 30:th-Jun-2021, 15:16:43 - Forum: Retrofit How-to's - Replies (2)

Hi, I purchased an ex police Astra j sports tourer with parking sensors but, no switch. The noise is really annoying and without the switch, i can only deactivate it by going through the menu, and it reactivates itself anyway. It also prevents me from upgrading my stereo to an android unit as I won't be able to deactivate them at all then, I suspect.
I've seen I can purchase the switch on eBay, however I'm not sure if there is any extra wires I'd need to connect the switch to the car, I presume there are?
Does anyone know if it's possible to add the switch easily, or even possible at all. I have no idea where I'd even find the module to see if there is a switch cable there, or what it would look like?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

  Retro Fit Apple Carplay Question
Posted by: ed-b - 29:th-Jun-2021, 14:25:03 - Forum: Retrofit Research - Replies (1)

Hi All

I have a 2016 Astra GTC and love it. The only thing that I am not too keen on is the NAVI 650 system.

My son has a 2016 Corsa and that is fitted with a large colour display and supports Apple Carplay. I am not too keen on the on board sat nav system supplied with the car and switched to Sygic about 2 years ago and use this on an iPhone which is precariously supported by a plastic holder (it falls off every time I go over a bump !).

So I started to think that there must be a better way.

And then I found a company based in the midlands that do 2 kits which completely replace the centre panel. Here are the links...

Option 1 - Grundig
https://topvehicletech.com/products/vaux...17bc&_ss=r

Option 2 - Kenwood
https://topvehicletech.com/products/kenw...17bc&_ss=r

They are not cheap but they both come with a new fascia panel which makes the whole installation look like a factory fitted option.

I'm OK at DIY and both kits come with full instructions but I wondered if any other members of the forum have tried these kits and are they any good ? Also, are there any other alternatives that I need to look at before moving ahead ?

Any helpful advice would be gratefully appreciated.

All the best

Ed

  2.0 CDti auto gearbox fault
Posted by: Big Dave2 - 29:th-Jun-2021, 12:14:31 - Forum: Mechanical - Replies (2)

My 2013 Astra-J 2.0 CDTi auto is starting to play up when taken on a journey of more than 10 miles. Driving around locally it’s fine, but putting it into D after approx 10 miles or more, it snatches into gear quite violently like the clutch has gone in a manual box. If I turn the engine off and start it up again, then it’s fine for a little while. No error codes (using Op-Com).

It's done approx. 65,000 miles. Am I right in assuming it's the AF40 autobox?

The gearbox oil has never been changed, but then again all my previous Vauxhall autos had done over 100,000 miles without an oil change and had no problems.

Would something as simple as an oil change likely to resolve this problem?
How easy/hard is it to change the oil, and does anything else need changing, such as a filter?

Thanks.

Improvements to help more of you save money

Improvements to help more members save money

So, Chris Knotts haven't been standing still these last few months. In fact, we've expanded our panel of insurers - meaning we can now quote for more members.

Along with some postcode and no claims bonus relaxations, there's now an even longer list of acceptable mods (NO limit on BHP with this new insurer for example).

On top of that, there are some really low quotes out there at the moment (including with these companies we use) so make sure you ask us to find you the quotes that you just can't get through a comparison site - whether your car is stock or modified.

See how much you could save by calling Chris Knott Insurance on 0800 917 2274.

Or submit brief details online and we'll call you for the rest:
https://www.chrisknott.co.uk/carquote

We look forward to helping you find the best deal this year.

best,
Nick

Feedback

"Always perfect. Came back from my other car insurance. Andy H is great. Will be missed when he leaves. Keep safe and take care." Simon Thompson, Trustpilot

"Really helpful staff. Much better prices than comparison sites. Hopefully they'll be able to help out next year too." Mr Jackson, Trustpilot

"So very refreshing to be treated like an individual and not feel like you are talking to someone in a vast call centre who is hurriedly reading off a screen unable to deviate from set procedures. I usually hate the whole getting quotes and renewing insurance but this time it was painless and actually enjoyable. Thank you." Mrs H, Trustpilot

"Good customer service when setting up new car insurance. Willing to price match and or beat quote. So far so good!" Laura Hughes, Trustpilot

"Had a small carpark dent last year and my renewal quote with Mazda insurance doubled this year so had to try searching for a better price. I had already had gap cover with Chris Knott so called them for a quote. Had a much better offer which I accepted with everything handled smoothly and had my documents emailed promptly. Service has been great so far even with the virus problems which do not seem to bother Chris Knott insurance much." Leighton, Trustpilot

  astra drl fuse or relays??
Posted by: steveh - 27:th-Jun-2021, 14:13:53 - Forum: Lighting - Replies (1)

I'm completely stuck here with my DRLs.
My DRLs do not work nor do my side lights, so this is making my main dipped beam come on, i can not seem to find the fuse/fuses for these lights only a pair of relays which i thought DRLs did not need but hey oh.

so what is my next move,,, where should i be looking now? i'm not that great with electrics on a car but i would have thought this might have been an easyish fix.

i have nothing on the dash telling me of an error or light/lights not working.

thanks.

  Help....please anyone, I have many queries x

Hiya all,
Firstly thank you for reading my plea for help.
OK I have the cash but not the knowledge and that's dangerous I know!!!
I am looking for shocks and 40mm springs for my wee beastie who is called Chilli, yes very femine of me but there you go. Anyway he's the 2.0l 165bhp cdti sri which I know factory is 30mm lowered but I need new shocks as mine are pants so I thought let's just get new suspension. I do not want coil overs or stupid top range, I do far too many miles and just want a little bit of comfort so no bone rattling suggestions to make him rock hard.
Also hunting some half decent 18s 5 x 115 pcd...
So there you have it...help please?

Battery replacement - AGM or regular
Posted by: everson38 - 21:st-Jun-2021, 23:49:55 - Forum: Mechanical - Replies (1)

My battery is showing signs of needing a change as it is original Vauxhall AGM on my 62plate 1.7 Astra J GTC

My question is the replacement AGM batteries are quite expensive , can I go to regular flooded or will that cause me issues?

Thanks.

Running rough at specific Idle speed?
Posted by: everson38 - 20:th-Jun-2021, 21:30:30 - Forum: Mechanical - No Replies

Hey guys,

Noticed something alittle odd on my 1.7 Astra GTC 62 plate.

I was letting the car idle stationary and was hold the revs at certain ranged.to get the engine warmed up.

I noticed when the rev counter hit approx 1500rpm - 2000rpm I could feelnthe car shaking abit, but then below or above the rev range it would smooth out and be completely normal?

Any ideas on what it could be?

Thanks in advance.
