  Ben's 2.0CDTi Ecoflex Se
Posted by: ben. - 3:rd-Feb-2017, 18:21:02 - Forum: Members car's progress threads - Replies (5)

Evening All,

It's been a couple weeks since I got my Astra and it's time to start a (rather plain probably) progress thread.

So, I chose the Astra as my previous car (Alfa 159) was rather pricey to run and with even more miles on my commute I thought it was best to downsize to something that just works really.

It hasn't been the best of starts as I picked it up on Friday 13th (tempting fate here? haha) and by the Monday was in the garage for a leaky boot, rumbling suspension and the door catch was knackered. Once back it was straight into commuting and all was well apart from the leaky boot still not sorted. Today it was back in and they have resealed all the grommets and re sealed the boot floor, so hopefully it's all sorted now.

Apart from that I'm rather enjoying the car, decent MPG and it feels fairly quick.

I gather it is a fairly standard Se, half leather, 17 Alloys, Cruise Control, Auto wipers/lights and flex floor. Has an detachable tower fitted but not been given the swan neck for it.

Today was the first chance I had to give it a wash, polish and wax. It has come up nice except the chrome round the window is rather tarnished and I can't seem to sort it.

Anyway, time for a couple pictures to liven up story time.

Got my LED number plate bulbs fitted

Also put some white DRL bulbs but not got any pictures.

Future plans are;

VXR Pedals
New android headunit for bluetooth etc
Possibly 18" alloys

Thanks for reading,

Ben.

  Rapid beeps/bongs on ignition
Posted by: klargon - 3:rd-Feb-2017, 14:24:46 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (10)

I've just taken ownership of a 2010 2.0 CDTI Astra J Elite.  Coming from and old Type-R, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the number of electronic assists!  I've ploughed through the manual and done some googling, but I'm struggling to find out if the beeps on ignition are normal.  Basically, when turning the key to the ignition 'on' point, I get a series of bongs in rapid succession, which stop after a few seconds.  After starting the engine, the status lights all disappear (except for the expected ones - handbrake, etc) but the bong sequence repeats again.  There's nothing reported on the screen.  Is this something I need to be concerned about?

Thanks in advance.

  Cruise control not working
Posted by: raimon - 3:rd-Feb-2017, 10:57:27 - Forum: Astra-J/GTC - Replies (10)

Hi guys,

The cruise control is no longer working on my car or is temperamental intermittent problem. It used to be just an occasional thing now it has become more frequent. Basically you turn on cc, light turns white, then you try to engage cruise control it just not working anymore not turning green, tried all sorts of methods on the controls to get it to work but no avail.

I have read up it could be a number of things to cause it. It could be the actual cruise control switch on the steering wheel, or brake sensor etc.

Any ideas.

Thanks.

  Interior Cleaning
Posted by: Wellsy - 30:th-Jan-2017, 19:16:02 - Forum: ADS - AutoDetail Solutions - Replies (1)

Hi guys!

Today I will be talking about cleaning the interior of the car. This is suited for weekly or biweekly cleaning. For more in depth cleaning, take a look at my interior shampoo post which will be posted shortly.

Firstly, remove all rubbish, litter, larger stones and leaves from the vehicle.

Then use a dash brush (pic below) to dust the dashboard, vents, trims and other niggly bits. Allow the dust to fall to the floor.

Use a vacuum with a crevice tool (pic below) to vacuum the floor and seats, the crevice tool is great for the side of the seats and for tight areas.

After this, use a dedicated Interior Cleaner or a mild APC (All purpose cleaner), with a cloth to wipe down all the plastics. If you have a leather cleaner, you can use this to wipe down your leather seats as part of your routine.

I use CarPro Inside, which is a dedicated Interior Cleaner and Leather Cleaner. It also dilutes at 5: 1 (5 parts water to 1 part product).

It foams up lightly to allow longer dwell time, which breaks down the grime and dirt before wiping away with a cloth, leaving behind a refreshing scent.

All that's left is your windows, 2 cloths, one to wipe the window cleaner on, and the other to buff off to a streak free finish.

Top tip - spray air freshener under your mats and seats for longevity.

Happy Hoovering!
