This is a How To for the Door Ambient LED Lights

There are now two Versions of this How to so this is Version one
Using the Correct LED but Taking Power
from the Window Switch Ambient Light Circuit
this means they will come on when you Open the Door
and go off when you Close the Door
and stay on when you Turn the Side Lights or Headlights on
i have my Lights wired like this.

This is the LED you will need (Part Number GM 13319462).
you could not Buy these for Love nor Money a few Mouths back
and had to Buy the Whole Door Card
But Vauxhall have just Started to Sell them now..

STEP ONE.........

Remove the Gloss Black Trim from the Door Card.

Gently start Prizing at the Bottom and Work your way Up
to the Top just take care and take your Time it will come off.

Now you have the Black Trim off the Door Card
Gently lift the Front of the Window Switch until the Switch has been Removed.

Now undo the Connector from the Window Switch
and put the Switch to one Side out off the way.

Use a Torx Screw Driver to Remove the Two screws.

STEP TWO.......

Just above the Red LED in the picture below there is a Third Screw to Remove
You can see were the LED Light goes Behind the Silver Trim
It slots into place by just pushing the LED into the slot.

Gently pull back the Silver Trim from the bottom until you see the Hole for the LED
You may need to use a Screw Driver to Pop it off.

if you need to Remove the Whole Silver Trim to get access to the hole for the LED
i Recommend Removing the whole Door Card
And push the clips out around the door handle from the back
as they will brake if you pull that bit from the front.
but you should be able too Pull the silver trim back Enough to gain access to the Slot from the front
so just take your Time start at the bottom and work your way up.

how-to for door card removal

This is How the LED will sit in the Door Card with the Silver trim removed
with the wire running Down the handle and into the Door Card
So it comes back up from the Hole for the Window Switch.

STEP THREE.........

Now you need to Splice the wires Together
so Cut off the Connector on the Door LED and add
The Red wire from the LED to the Yellow wire on the Window Switch
The White wire from the LED to the Black wire on the Window Switch

DRIVERS SIDE......

[Image: S79DWindowSwitch-Driver_zpskougbaf3.jpg]

PASSENGER SIDE......

[Image: S79PWindowSwitch-Passenger_zps91pnhhtv.jpg]

Check The LED works by plugging the connector back into the window switch and then Turning the Headlight Switch on
the Door LED Lights should now Light up.

Make it Neat and use some Shrink Wrap to keep
the Connections nice and safe.

but if you do it this way i would Recommend using two Connectors
So you can Pull them apart if you Need to take the Door Card off again

THE RESULTS.....

So you now have working Ambient Door Lights
This is Plug and Play no Programming Needed.

I also connected some Red LED strip lights to the window switch
and stuck them on the inside door pockets to to improve the Door LED even more..

I also Spliced into the Headlight switch
like i did on this how to

http://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-how-...GEAR-GATOR

Then i ran wires to the rear doors
and put LED Strip Lights into the rear Door pockets.

SECOND OPTION..........

Also Pre MY11 cars may Already have the LED light in the Door Card
or if you have just brought a leather interior they will be in the door cards
The only way to check is to Remove the Door Card and have a look
you will see a small Connector on the back of the Door Card just by the Handle
if you have that then the LED is There and you just need to add power and ground to the LED
you can just snip the small connector off the LED on the Door card
And splice into the window switch if you like.

or keep the Connector on and look for the other Loom on the Harness read on for this way.

[Image: PartImage_92580c32-cb46-41a5-8684-dfb62c...prfvsf.jpg]

If you do not have the LED in the Door card already
Order one from a Vauxhall Dealer
(Part Number, 13319462)
There about £9,00 each.

If you Have the small Female Connector
Taped up to the Door Loom
but no Connection From the Door Loom Connector
to the LED Connector on the Door Card
you need to get these Connectors.

2X Door Loom Side.

http://www.newark.com/te-connectivity/1563190-1/connector-housing-pin-socket-tab/dp/05W5261?CMP=AFF-CJ-6148349-Newark+Product+Catalog&source=CJ

2X LED Light side.

http://www.newark.com/te-connectivity-amp/1563189-1/connector-housing-pin-socket-rcpt/dp/76R7387?CMP=AFF-CJ-6148349-Newark+Product+Catalog&source=CJ

You will also need some 5 amp wire
To make a small Loom with Two Wires
with the above Connectors on ether End.
This then Plugs into the end of the LED Light on the Door Card
and the other end will Plug in to the small Connector on the Door Harness.
The LED should then work RUSTY can supply this loom see post below.

But there also may be a Pin Missing from Position (34)
on the Main Door Harness Connector
you can Take Power from here by Adding a Female Pin in to Position (34)
if you don't have it already.

AS WITH ALL ELECTRICAL HOW TOO,S.
you do this at your own risk if you follow the how to correctly
there should be no problems thank you.

Rusty2009 does sale the factory female connection for £8.00 which will allow quick removal of the door card if ever needed.

Well I went ahead and ordered two ambient light units £18.26 from Vauxhall last Thursday they said they would be there on Saturday. Called on Tuesday as I had a bit more time then, when I got there the guy went off to get them, he was ages. So much so that I had time to have a good luck at an Insignia and a Mocka. When he came back he said someone must have nicked them, and would have to order them again. Now Thursday and they are in again (hope they don't get nicked). Called at lunchtime wow they are ready for me, dashed home to fit them with the propper conectors that I bought, so If the door panel needs to come off it is easier. Pulled the door card off and soldered two tails to the yellow and black conections to the door switch lights on both doors. I have also moved the conection for the ambient light in the trinket tray to the yellow and black on the back of the radio panel. They now all work in tandum. The next job is finding that gray wire for the footwell lights and put a LED in the small coign box to the right of the steering wheel but that is for another day.
good work glad you got them all working. Cool
Great tut mate, me and rusty doing this sunday :-)

Thanks for the how to Tucpal I did help Lewis yesterday, we did it slightly different.

I can't see how you would be able to remove the door card if needed as it looks like you've just ran the wires from the light to the window switch?

We ran the light into the top so it comes out in the same place as factory then I used the connector and run to the window switch thus allowing total removal of the door card if needed.

Connector and pins will be available in the shop on the home page soon for anyone who wants them.
well done there are a few ways to do it
but glad you got it done.
yeh, looks good Smile but would look better with leather i think :P
They didn't want to give me a free leather interior when I bought the door lights. I would have accepted it though. Hehe

As I'm removing the whole door card anyway to fit the new leather ones i have, is it better/possible to just use the connector wire that you have for sale Rusty2009 and splice it into the window switch wires while the door card isn't installed or do I need to do it as per the guide and remove the handle plastic and do it while the card is installed?

Thanks
When I did Lewis6317 we took the whole door card off, seems sensible to do while you have the door card off TBH.
as you have the LED in the Door handle you just need to plug the loom rusty makes into that connector on the LED
and the fit the door card back on and then pull the wires up through the hole for the window switch and then splice into the wires
for power and ground you have the much easier option.

you need the second option but you dont need to fit the LED to the door card.
Perfect! Thanks for the help guys Smile Do you still have two of those looms left rusty?
Of course mate.
you can a link and pic to them in the how to if you like rusty :cool
tucpal Wrote:you can a link and pic to them in the how to if you like rusty :cool

Will do later mate.

Perfect! Hoping to buy them this weekend at the latest Smile
Have a question about how the door LEDS work and when they come on. Would they work as described in this tutorial of they were a vauxhall fitted extra? E.g. Would they come on when the doors are closed and be on all the time when the side lights/main lights are on?
Be on all the time the lights are on mate

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
And is that how the official ones would work?
Yes mate
tucpal with you saying that these come on when the main lights or side lights are on, I was thinking they would be on the whole time the DRLs are on...but that's not the case...I then discovered that I do have a side light button too and that it keeps the DRLs on and the door lights but the DRLS just go a bit dimmer than usual...never knew that lol
DRL & SIDE light is in one bulb.

DRL is brighter Side light is dimmer.
that is the way the factory set up works they will come on at night when the lights on
you would not really notice then in the day anyway
but top marks for getting it done well done
Ahhh I never actually knew that the side lights were different to the DRLs...but good to know that they are Smile and thanks! Looking forward to getting some pics later of the door lights when it's dark
How did you go about wiring the rear door LEDs up mate? Would like to do the same but can't wire into the window switch as they are manual windows

Edit: I forgot, you do too! Just wondering how you wired them up then :P
take a feed from the headlight switch you did but in the correct positions
then run the wire under the center console splice into two wires and run them to each door
run the wire through the rubber boots and inside the door make a small hole in the door cards
and stick the led to the door pocket

it does look really good in the rear
Hmmmm doesn't seem too bad tbh...well figuring out how to wire them through the centre console does but the rest seems easy Smile

What do you mean about running the wire through the rubber boots? Still unsure as to how the wiring gets into the door cards...Oh and wouldn't the splicing get a bit messy in the headlight switch as I'll then gave multiple wires spliced into the ground wire...?

Thanks
Off to Halford to buy some more wiring anyway, will then order the LED strip too. Just need some extra instructions on the above when you have some time if that's okay Smile
I did this last week. I wired them up to my window and switch wiring and they work brilliantly. The wires from the LED need extending slightly but they can be fed through the hole that's in the handle itself.

Any idea on the above then @tucpal? Thanks
open the rear door and you you will see a rubber boot that goes from the car body to the door
you have to remove that and thread the wire throu the boot and then run the wire into the car
its a door card of job also and some of the trim in the center has to be removed

if you give me a few weeks i will add a how to
but far to busy at the moment mate
Thanks mate! I get what you mean now and can figure out most of the things you're saying but not sure about the best ways of getting the wiring to the door card.

The tutorial would be awesome, I'll order the parts and wait for you to put that up Smile thanks again

Are these the LED strips I should be getting too?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371073054424?_...EBIDX%3AIT
yer there basically the same ones
Ta Smile will get them and wait for your tutorial

Can these be used for the footwells?
Don't see why not... They're just standard leds so you can use them wherever Smile
Cool, thanks mate! Since I now know how to splice things I am eventually going to add door and footwell lights Smile
Hahaha be leds everywhere now! Not sure if they are the best ones for the job but they can be used for that purpose Smile good luck anyway with all your work! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the car anyway!
Next should be rear sensors, then door and footwell lights. Then it will be a case of money, as my baby is due 30th may money will be tight haha! Oh and windows tinted and de badges front grille soon Smile
the door LED will not really work as foot well lights
but the strip lights will work but the LED that are linked in the foot well lighting how to
are the ones that are the best for the job of foot well lighting follow here

http://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-how-...ELL-LIGHTS
Yeah I have read both threads for lighting, will get the 48 led board Smile

@tucpal will these be ok to use? The 48 blue LEDs for footwell? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vie...0996641247
yep there the ones get the 48 led
Thanks mate just ordered them! Do you happen to have a link to some 5 amp wire that I may need? I'm not sure which one I need lol
You can go for this from maplins which is what i currently use:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/twin-core-6a-f...etre-xs70m

You can buy it by the metre and they cut it there and then for you so you can buy as much as you need.

Or you can go foe this from Halfords which is what I've just run out of:

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-a...eaker-wire

Works out about the same price but you can just choose how much you want from Maplins which is idea if you don't need loads.

Have used both for all sorts of jobs on the car and it all works fine Smile
Perfect mate thank you, will pick some of this up from maplins as it's closer Tongue
Hi,

I stumbled across this thread while I was googling Ambient lighting to add into the car.

I've followed the instructions above and its spot on for the passenger side,  but my drivers side has different coloured wires to what you mention,  I'm at a bit of a loose end on which I need to use,  I've attached a couple of images below that show the options I have.

I've got a 2013 Cascada.

As you can see my drivers connection doesn't have yellow where it shows on the grid,  its red and brown stripe.

I currently have half a car with the door lighting and half without.  Any help would be appreciated.

the top of the connector has the four wires, not three

Theres loads of stuff on this site I'll be doing to mine as interior is very similar to the Astra J.
Rusty may know if he can find the wiring and welcome.

Cheers mate, should I PM him or will he see it on here?
He will see it also do you have front electric windows or front and rear
The quarters would be electric wouldn't they what with it being a convertible?
