I have an astra 2.0 cdti 2012 and when the car is cold the gears are hard to select and feel stiff until the car is warm. Then everything is fine!!
That's normal a cable adjustment can help abit and gearbox fluid change may also help but it never fully goes away
2.0 Cdti is notchy from 1st to 2nd when cold. It's OK after a few minutes.

1.7 too for that matter

I found that when I fitted my short shifter and greased all of the moving parts including the ball joint of the gear stick, rods and the shifter itself, gear changes are much smoother.

Hopefully after the end of today I won't be worrying anymore with the notchy gearbox since I'm picking up my new focus at end of today as long as my white astra makes it

as that's me put it all back to standard including 2nd hand dpf fitted and remap taken off. As well as new halogen headlights, cost me a small fortune putting it back to standard lol.

Good stuff. Enjoy your Ford focus, I hope you don't have any problems with it as I've heard that there might be a cam sprocket issue with them. 1.5 motor.
