Well time has come to replace all of mine & Vauxhall have quoted £535 + VAT... How does that compare you think? Or should I tackle this job myself?
pads and disc are quite easy to do yourself, although I always send my cars into the mechanic due to the importance of the brakes.

But £535+ vat I think you could get it cheaper elsewhere depends if you want to use genuine parts as well, I was advised by my mechanic to always use genuine parts because if anything goes wrong wherever I am I can go into any vauxhall dealer and they have to put it right at no cost to me (my cost him).
use genuine parts if possible but get a local garage or some one you trust to do it
that does sound very expensive to me
i have got to do my brakes very soon also but i will do them my self
there easy to change as long as you are happy bleeding them
you could get these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-ASTRA...1e6c75545e

any garage should only charge you about £100 to fit them.

5*115 are 300mm fronts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221352388028?_...EBIDX%3AIT
5*105 are 276mm fronts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321295839514?_...EBIDX%3AIT

5*115 rears are 292mm
5*105 rears are 268mm
The price does seem a little steep but then I tend to do the work myself and I will be especially after the prices I was quoted for pads and disc's on mine.
the vxr prices are well over priced they are around the £800 mark Shocked
Thanks all... I am happy to fit them myself but it is the bleeding part I wouldn't know where to start
it is well worth learning how to bleed them it saves you a fortune
and at the the very lest learn how too service the pads and grease the pins
as this should really be done every year to keep the brakes in tip top condition

we have a how to for the service but we do not cover the bleed and replace
http://www.vxoc.org.uk/forum/Thread-How-...oval-5Door

here is a handy you tube clip also
but does hot cover the bleed if it needs to be done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byUQqMEPaTk

you could always replace the discs and pads your self
and if they feel soft get them bleed at your local garage
Someone on another site says they do not need bleeding... exciting I might do this myself
they may not that is correct but if they do feel spongy then it is recommended

Oh I love a project, just need to find time

i need to find the tool my self

There is an aftermarket tool. I had the choice of two when I did the rear pads on my old J. I picked the wrong one it did Ford, Vauxhall, Fiat and possibly Mazda the other tool did Vauxhall and not Anyway after stripping pads out I found out the tool was the wrong one, Ended up having to use long nose pliers to wind it back in. To say they were wrong tool for the job it was still a doddle.
I have long nose pliers... I am on this bad boy!!!

I'm sure you will be fine and if you get stuck someone here will be able to advise.
I've got the laser rewind tool and has 4 adaptors. Used it on my H after trying to do it with pliers with little luck with the tool take seconds to wind tge calipers back.

Cheers baz but the laser tool for the h may have a different size adapter I will try and find this out

Is yours a cube with different shaped pins for different makes?

Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk
Mine has different discs that fit with different pin spacings

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
did the astra H tool fit they were 32.5mm 6mm pins ?
I've only used mine on Astra H Ford Ka and Corsa C and was fine on all 3 cars. Not tried the J. The tool cost me £15 from Halfords a few years back

Yours will probably have the right part to fit as the one I got was a cube that had 6 different pins but they obviously never went wider apart than the cube.
Right trying to find front discs seems impossible... I have found that they are 321mm though lol
Have you tried Eurocarparts?
J1ODYA Wrote:Right trying to find front discs seems impossible... I have found that they are 321mm though lol

are the gtc a bigger then if you find the correct sizes for the gtc and you post me the sizes
we need to log that some were thanks,
Just been out and measured the discs on the courtesy car 1.6T GTC and they are 321mm, looked on EPC and this also says 321mm. Part number is 13502826 unfortunately I can't get a price as there not in the trade book yet. Rears are 292mm. If needed I can find out for you

This has some useful OE part numbers for brakes
http://www.ate-brakes.com/www/download/a...nummer.pdf
Confirm what Taz said... 321mm seems hard to find, eurocarparts don't have them in stock, already spoke with them.

Even Vauxhall don't have them in stock, they are quoting £94 + vat per disc!!!
Have you tried autovaux?

Ta, I have one of them cards...

Vauxhall quoted me slightly less for the parts without stating trade?!?

Either way it's flippin expensive lol
Tell me about it, dreading the day the VXR needs new brakes.

Been looking on the net and most sellers are stating 300mm for the GTC which is completely wrong

Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
I have had a few garages looking for me & they all came back with 300mm... good job I know better!
I would say the price you've been quoted is pretty good considering the parts price. £150 labour probably equates to 1 1/2 work which is about right.

I did find some thr right size but not a name I've heard of

FEBI?

Are the GTC brakes the same as the standard J diesel, do you know?
Think the 5dr diesel are 300mm

Interesting... think I might end up biting the bullet & going to Vx
there is so little info for the GTC when it comes to things like this
J1ODYA if you are phoning the dealers can you get part numbers for the front and rear brake pad sets
and front and rear disc part numbers and sizes thank,s.
that will help others out.
The numbers I've got are
Front 321mm disc 13502826
Front pads 13237751
Rear 292mm disc 13502138
Rear pads 13319294

I'll see if I can get the info for the VXR as well
