Progress Thread: Sheppy1
Hi sheppy1 i am going to install my after mark s160 tomorrow i see in your pics you install the DAB unit into the rear USB port , im i bit silly asking this but what does the DAB look like ? thanks
Reply
Hey well the dab module is simply a usb antenna with a little block on it.. This is mine:

The app is just a basic app which lets you pick a station and it plays. Easy.

Now unless you plan on putting the antenna in clear line of sight of the sky... I wouldn't bother with it. It can't get a proper signal when moving if you put it anywhere else.

Remember that dab is an extra and won't come with the unit unless you paid extra for it

I was actually saying that to @tonto earlier! Ha. Either adapt it to fit a shark fin or some other type of antenna. As I'm not fussed about breaking it I may give it a go if someone can assist with finding a good cheap antenna. The shark fin that @rusty2009 recommended was like 60 quid

Very nice mirror cover , I both a cheep shark fin but it doesn't work ,what other shark fin might work or what was the one rusty2009 recommend for £60 ,thanks
Reply
@bhalay207 - I had a few wires going from the retrofit mirror which were visible and were annoying me...only way to really hide them was to invest in the mirror cover. So that's why

@opelastra - Yeah I have a cheap one too and it's not all that...but I don't listen to the radio at all so I don't care. The one rusty has would be best but can't remember the name of it :( @rusty2009 which is the one you have again?

The shark fin I got was on eBay and it was £6.99 I see a different on eBay shark fin 2 for £ 13.45 wouldt hat be better ?
Reply
Maybe but not by much. The first one I got was awful...no signal at all, the second one was a little bit more expensive (still less than a tenner). And I get signal now...but only sometimes and only with some stations! Ha. All the aftermarket ones except the expensive ones (one that rusty has etc.) will be rubbish mate

Nice one rusty! I'd be getting the fm, am, Dab one if I was to bother with one.

Just a note that Amazon are selling the fm and am one for 12 quid cheaper than the link rusty put up... If you were considering getting one

Just bought a full exhaust from a 2015 2 litre so I can get mine replaced as the new one has the exposed tip on it!

Few things though... My car currently has a resonator in the middle of the exhaust and my new one doesn't... Will this cause issues other than more noise?

Also what is this and will it be okay with my car?

It won't even create more noise.

That is just a flexi, as long as the diameter of where it joins the 1.7 downpipe is the same, it'll be fine.

Have you actually checked the 1.7 exhaust is the same diameter though?
Reply
Ahhh phew! And nope! Haha. The chap I bought it off said someone else with a 1.7 bought the same type of 2 litre pipe off him and he said it all worked out fine

it most likely won't fit sheepy if it not from the same model car
the diameter will be different and the join won't fit ether so you will not be fitting the whole thing

if it has a tail pipe the just cut the pipe like in the how to
and follow that mate

Really ya don't think so? Hmmmm not sure then, will wait and see eh! The chap I got it from said someone else with a 1.7 bought another 2.0 exhaust off him and told him everything swapped over fine. If not then yeah will ask my mechanic to chop the end off etc.

Mate it wont fit because the DPF is in the middle of the exaust, and the 2.0 does not have it, only the backbox. And you need in on your car

That's not a dpf... That's a resonator which just brings the noise down isn't it? Wither way the car doesn't even need a dpf does it?

In the middle of the exaust, you have a circular box, that is the dpf.

You can delete the dpf tho

It's illegal for a garage to remove and map it out for road use, and it's illegal to knowingly drive a car that you know has had it removed as far as I'm aware. This is why garages that do it put in a disclaimer with words to that effect.

Nice one! He told me he's leaving dpf anyway and chopping the back box off and swapping it like that all good then! Ta for the input guys

So he said that the pipes were 5mm different in size but he was able to get them joined up using standard fittings with a bit of modification from middle all the way through to the exhaust tip. So no cut and weld job, just swap with a bit of an adaption to get the 2 litre mid to back section paired with the current mid to front section. Looks great IMO!

Right chaps! MOTs... Is it generally better to stick with Vauxhall and get their little video walk-around of the car etc. Or go with a local company? Never done my own MOT before and got my first one coming up...

Ahhh right! Guess I wanted people's experiences with VX.VX have always done a video for me in the past even for 2 minute jobs they've done. The only mechanic I trust properly doesn't do them he has a mate he trusts but I've never met him...

Id have to take the car to VX anyway to have then reactivate the warranty wouldn't I?

Cheers dude! I'm really happy he was able to make the mid to back section fit without having to bodge anything. All feels and looks factory! Nothing special I know but I've always wanted an exposed exhaust

Hmmmm all depends on the mechanic eh! If my mechanic did MOTs I'd take it to him.. He doesn't though but has a friend he said he uses... Not sure whether I wanna take it to him though hence maybe just gonna use VX.
