Hi 🙂
On the Astra J with the CD400, the AUX port is usually all you get from the factory. That’s why pressing the phone button just mutes the audio—the head unit isn’t fully Bluetooth-enabled unless the car was optioned with it from the start. There’s no simple way to add a true USB port directly to the CD400.
Your cheaper options are:
A Bluetooth/AUX adapter that plugs into the AUX input (works well with iPhone for music and calls).
An FM or Bluetooth interface module designed for the CD400 (limited, but keeps the factory look).
If you want proper USB, Bluetooth, and satnav, swapping to an aftermarket head unit is usually the cleanest solution. Steering wheel controls can still work with the right adapter, and the mic is normally built into the new unit or added near the A-pillar.
From an auto repair standpoint, you’re on the right track taking it step by step. Audio upgrades, subs, and even fog lights are all doable—just plan the wiring carefully and avoid cheap interfaces that cause noise issues.
Good luck with the install, and enjoy the Astra!
