So, a bit of RUB glueing & then a trip to the hardware store, I realised a much more flexible solution, that will allow me to quickly move/remove/reorientate/change size of the box(es) I put in the rear.

Bungee cords!!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy. I also happen to have a cargo net under the boot liner, which simply rolls up to the side, whatever is put in and secured.
