yes the shorter it gets the worse it will get
if you were to cut it you would need a cap to go back on top
but that is a thing a would not recommend unless you have a spare

the sri mast is the smallest option but still big
the standard mast is the biggest by about 2 inch or so

Tbh I didn't notice any difference on my old car

I have one off a Vw polo on mine reception is fine.
