When I had my gtc with sight and light pack the main dipped beam used to come on when I unlocked the cat but my new astra j doesn't, it doesn't have standard lights though. Is this normal?

There is an option in the configuration for welcome lights on unlocking the car. Not sure if you need the sight and light pack for the option.

IIRC those that don't have auto lighting don't get the lights come on on lock unlock and those that do have auto light lights will come on.
I have auto lights and this may show a little of what you mean, It's not on the lights but may help.
