HOW TO: Replace Gear box oil - Cameron UK - 24:th-Jun-2014

HOW TO CHANGE THE GEAR OIL...

Changing your gear box oil is thought to be not necessary but i found it to improve smoothness of gear changes especially as i was having some issues changing from 1-2 and 2-3. The part number for my oil was which i got from my local dealership. If you need to know your oil number then contact rusty. I measured how much came about and it was about 1.75L and i put 2 full bottles back in.

1. Remove the belly panel undercarriage, you dont need to take it all the way off:

2. You will see this towards the passengers side, You need to remove the drain bolt which is the only allen key one in the area. Let this drain out. The bolt is magnetic so catches any broken metal or rubbish so clean this with frsh gear box oil. Once fully drained you can put the bolt back in

3. Look up towards the side of the gearbox where the oil has just drained from and you will see a thick plastic tubing, behind this is your reverse light sensor, this is where you can fill up the oil from. This picture is taken looking vertically. You can see the reverse light sensor hanging out

4. Put a funnel in the hole and run some tubing above your engine bay.

5. Pour the new gear box oil in, replace the reverse light sensor, belly panel and your done.

Hey there, well I have a question about doing this oil change on an opel astra sports tourer break 1.7 110hp. My gearbox does the same stiffness in gear 1-2-3 on the 4-5-6th there is no stiffness. I'm afraid of doing this on my own and don't want the opel service to change it, because they will charge me tons of money :( So could you tell me please what kind of oil to buy? I'm from Romania and the car was bought from Germany. I would like to change it in an independent service that i usually change engine oil and they seem to be good guys and don't charge like an Opel Service do . Thanks a lot guys

Can you also remove the battery and battery tray to gain access to the filler plug? I seen this on a write up elsewhere for the M32 gearbox. I was planning on changing mine tomorrow and it seems a bit of a palaver to use the tubing down the side of the engine.

How does a 6 speed use less oil than a 5 speed haha

RE: HOW TO: Replace Gear box oil - andytl - 3:rd-Oct-2016

Just a quick note. You should undo the fill plug BEFORE draining the gearbox! If you drain the box and then find you can't open the fill plug for some reason then your in for some trouble?

How much gearbox oil do you put in 2014 GTC 2.0cdti A20DTH, I think I read somewhere that it's 2.4ltr but not sure for definite.

HOW TO: Replace Gear box oil - Iaintruten - 13:th-Nov-2017

Yeah it was 2.4 I put In mine also fitted a shortshifter to shorting the gear throws so it feels better, I used Miller's nanodrive 75w90.

Yeah as mine was the 2.0cdti 6 speed.

Also a short shift on the 2.0cdti makes the gearbox feel alot better as well.

I needed the Z shift which is the more expensive one, but I only paid £129.99. I see they are now £154.99!!

Yeah they aren't cheap lol but what a difference it made but then gave up on the astra and went for a 2.0tdci titanium x focus as the turbo was shot on my astra and so was the gearbox lol only had 50000 on it as well but was running 220bhp and was going to run more till the problems arose lol.
