OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Dennis S - 14:th-Aug-2018 I'm looking for a OBD2 scanner to find and delete engine management (or service vehicle soon) codes on my Astra. I have so far tried the Autophix OM 123. It connected with my car ok, but failed to read a service vehicle soon fault displaying on my dash. Can anyone recommend something that works for them, please ? RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Lansa - 14:th-Aug-2018 for reading and erasing fault codes on Opel (Vauxhalls), i always highly recommend the OP-COM clones. cheap, pretty reliable! All you need is a laptop with a USB port running windows. (20-40quid) I personally use a GM MDI clone, also (around 100quid). Good for reading out fault codes, testing modules and clearing fault codes. However it is not recommended to program with these. RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Rusty2009 - 15:th-Aug-2018 Yes I'd 2nd op-com but I'd only recommend you buy from the below link forget the cheaper ones on ebay etc. http://www.op-com.co.uk/store/c1/Featured_Products.html @Garpenlov I got caught out with a clone MDI it lasted all of 6 months when I sent it away for repair the guy phoned me and said you have a clone and its the worst he's ever seen, the person I brought it off wouldn't give me a refund but did swap it for a new one which I never even used I just sold it at a loss (clearly stating it was a clone) and brought a genuine from BBA-REMANN. RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Dennis S - 16:th-Aug-2018 Thanks for your replies. I was hoping to find something that I could keep in the car to use if I needed it. The reason being, my car has went into limp mode (undriveable) twice in the two years I've had it - both times leaving me stranded at the roadside with the display telling me the engine has overheated, when, of course it hadn't. Doesn't give me much confidence in the car. The last time it happened an auto engineer cleared the fault and found it was reading exhaust gas temperature too high. RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Rusty2009 - 16:th-Aug-2018 The problem with alot of these cheaper scanners and one's you can keep plugged in is they they don't really work 99% of time they won't even pull error codes and the other 1% I would question if it's giving the correct error code. RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - thefukingod - 16:th-Aug-2018 I bought a cheap scanner off ebay & it does the job only does engine codes. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Launch-Creader-OBD2-EOBD-Code-Reader-Car-Engine-Analyzer-Auto-Diagnostic-Scanner/273174187834?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 RE: OBD II scanner - what works on the Astra ? - Dennis S - 21:st-Aug-2018 (16:th-Aug-2018, 16:27:06)thefukingod Wrote: I bought a cheap scanner off ebay & it does the job only does engine codes. Thanks for that suggestion. I got myself a Launch Creader 6001 from Amazon. This one you have to plug into your computer and download the latest updates. Found and deleted my SVS light on my car. Will be keeping it in my car in case I need it. |
