Astra 2.0 Cdti elite auto? - marcus01 - 28:th-Oct-2016

So I'm thinking of getting rid of my 2012 2.0 Cdti Sri vx line and going for an auto version of the same car mainly due the daily grid of stop start traffic on the highway.

I looking at the Elite version over the Sri version mainly due to spec.

Things I like about the elite version are:-
Leather seats
Heated seats
Climate control (had this in my Civic, miss it alot.

Things I will miss are:-
Vx line 19 alloys
Sportier ride compared to elite.
Vx line kit.

I've never driven an elite but Ive heard comments that the ride is a little spongy?

Pfa. Will I regret this 'upgrade'?

I would rather pick up a full leather interior with heated seats, centre console and door cards from eBay for around £350. I prefer the sportier look over comfort, it's just a petty that the vx line was lacking in sight and light pack and dab (unless paid for as an optional extra)

An auto will increase the fuel bill.

I'd stick with a manual.

It's more about the auto vs manual gearbox for me and less about the nice to haves like leather etc. Just thought if I was going to swop, I might as well get the elite spec. Agreed, vx line looks much cooler.

Yeah I believe the auto box is old school tech and not as efficient / effective as the new ones from VAG / BMW.

A can live with a few mpg less but I'd be more concerned that the auto box is a bit of a dog to live with..... I. E. Feels like it's always in the wrong gear, hunting,.... I've never driven the astra 2.0 auto etc.

OK so that's a NO then.

Will stick with the VX Line for a year or 2.

The seats can be a bit of a pig to change, as the pre tensioner seat connectors can be different. Even if you buy like for like seats from the same model & spec. Which I did on my elite. Bought it 6 months ago as a bit of a project, was ex mobility. FVSH & hpi clear. Previous owner had not looked after it. Dog chewed up the interior. I replaced the passengers seat & rear seats myself. Also dash was trashed by the dog. Bought one & had a mate change it for me at mates rates.
I prefer the comfort. Although an elite not having blue tooth or a usb port as standard, is a joke. Although I can live with that. as you know the sri has slightly uprated suspension, as standard.

In my experience this was not true. I've owned two Astra 2.0cdti elite's. One being the manual s/s version, other an auto. Owned them both for around 6 months. Used them over the same type driving type cycles. 40% b roads, 40% town & 20% long runs. I averaged around 44mpg from them both. 50+ mpg from them both at around 80'ish on long runs. I've found the auto version to be more convenient to use around town. It also adapts to your driving style. If you ease off the throttle, it will change down. I now find little use for the manual option, more of a gimmick really.

Just when I thought I was over the Automatic frame of mind, I was given a A5 sport back tdi auto as a hire car at Newcastle Airport yesterday.

It was a really nice car to drive and the whole auto experience was great driving around. I think it might have been the multitronic gearbox as well? Decisions decisions.... ...
