External fm/dab antenna in Astra J - mdruedal - 29:th-Sep-2016

Have anyone installed an new external antenna on the Astra J, like this one http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DRA-6001_FM-AM_DAB_car_aerial.html
??
I am mostly interested in knowing if it will fit the hole in the roof, from the stock antenna?

Cheers

Thanks, I will have a look at that one also. Do you know what kind of connector is on the FM wire in the car coming from the radio ?

I have the Kinetic DRA-6003 http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DRA-6003_FM-AM_DAB_car_aerial.html

Aerial fit the hole without problems, however though I have never been able to have a perfect seal around the outside edge, no matter what I tried. There was a tiny gap always at the front edge so put grease on the underside of aerial base before putting in place.

As for reception, the signal continually drops out through built up areas and roads with lots of trees. This maybe down to poor reception where I live though, wish I had gone for the longer aerial instead of the shorter one.

I couldn't find a connector to fit the new aerial to the factory fm lead as the new aerial is hirschmann male and car factory lead is facra female, so you will need hirschmann female to din male http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Connector_Hirschmann_F_to_DIN_M.asp , then femal din to male fakra. This is from memory though, so you would need to check for yourself first.

@Stigeye, Sounds like you could be loosing a lot of signal in all of those connectors...
I will during the next 2 months work some more on my car, and probably replace the antenna for an FM/DAB/GPS one, most likely this one : http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/Kinetic_DRA-6005_GPS_FM-AM_DAB_car_aerial.html.
