Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 8:th-Jun-2015

Hi all

I'm SURE I saw a post on how to fit a visible exhaust tip to the J by just cutting the splitter & bolting an eBay tip on.

May have been @tucpal ?

I can't remember if you need to angle grind the downturn off or not, I'm hoping I can do it without welding as I have everything but a welder!

If there's no how to, can anyone help with what needs to be done?

Cheers
Jordan

Give this thread a read

You can fit the tip linked in the above thread without cutting the splitter.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 8:th-Jun-2015

Thanks for that, I take it is still have to cut the original pipe etc? I assume I can't literally bolt on a tip to the OEM pipe without cutting/changing it?

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - WhelanUK - 8:th-Jun-2015

This is the one I have as fitted in the above picture.

Just bolts straight on with no cutting or changing.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 9:th-Jun-2015

Perfick, I'll have one of them.

Cheers!

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - sheppy1 - 9:th-Jun-2015

Thanks from me for the info too! Been wanting one of these exposed exhausts for ages! Trying to decide if i like the one you linked too or not...do you have any more photos? Maybe side on ones so I can see how much it drops down?

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - WhelanUK - 9:th-Jun-2015

The only photo I have at minute, will get a better one tomorrow. I know Tucpal has had a number of different ones fitted.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 9:th-Jun-2015

I've ordered mine so will get pics when I fit it

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - sheppy1 - 10:th-Jun-2015

Cheers guys! Will look out for more photos from both of you before I buy one

Fitting visible exhaust tip - Lewis6317 - 11:th-Jun-2015

Close up picture.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 11:th-Jun-2015

Get the polish out!

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - sheppy1 - 12:th-Jun-2015

Thanks for the photo! Here's a few questions though... Would it not start to melt the bumper that it's touching? Also exactly how does it fit on?

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - tucpal - 12:th-Jun-2015

no it wont melt the bumper as long as there is a gap
it bolts on but getting it tack welded on is advised
i would advise following the retro fit option and look for a used tail pipe
and cut it off and replace like in the how to as it looks factory that way.

look for jonika21 how to in this thread he has done an excellent job.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 12:th-Jun-2015

Mine arrived today, looks great.. can't wait to fit it when I get home

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 12:th-Jun-2015

Will fit it tomorrow as its poured down tonight!

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 13:th-Jun-2015

Doesn't fit lol.

I guess diesels must have a bigger bore as std? Mines a 1.7 125bhp.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - WhelanUK - 13:th-Jun-2015

I didn't know that, sorry pal.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - sheppy1 - 13:th-Jun-2015

Awwww balls! That's a shame :( I have the same engine as you aswell so I'd have the same issue. And @tucpal I would go down that route but I was only wanting to do this if it was an easy and cheap job, getting the proper parts and having the bumper cutout made and new tip soldered on isn't a cheap job lol

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - tucpal - 14:th-Jun-2015

Read the how to it is a very easy job but finding an exhaust with a tail pipe cheap is not easy

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Lewis6317 - 14:th-Jun-2015

@Jj0063 did you buy the one he share? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300910240915

I brought that too, not received it yet mind yet I'm worried it will not fit :(
It does say for diesels.

I found these, bottom looks promising

It states the size bore so may help you more

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 14:th-Jun-2015

The bore of the diesel exhaust I'd say is 56mm, so the only one that MAY fit is the bottom link but it's gonna be tight! I'm gonna try find a way of getting mine cut & welded.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - tucpal - 14:th-Jun-2015

You can get a reducer pipe 60mm to whatever the tip is but it may push the tail pipe down further

Let us know how you get on mate as I will have same problem as you when mine turns up

Fitting visible exhaust tip - Mucorek - 14:th-Jun-2015

My 1.6 115hp have 50mm diameter. Can I use the one which @WhelanUK have and cut hole in black insert to have it not to low.

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - WhelanUK - 14:th-Jun-2015

From the measurements above I would imagine it would fit. Plus the exhaust on the 1.4 & 1.6 must be pretty close. I'm not sure how much higher up you could get it to sit as there isn't much of a drop down. If you going to go down the cutting the splitter route you might be better to get an exhaust company to cut it and weld a new tip on.

Fitting visible exhaust tip - Mucorek - 14:th-Jun-2015

Ok so I will have that one and will try first without cutting the insert.

I finally chose that one
http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=281676289727&globalID=EBAY-GB
Fits easy, I just cut 2cm of black insert and job done

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 18:th-Jun-2015

That'll fit mine too, but I'm not sure I like it lol

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Jj0063 - 3:rd-Aug-2015

Was having a poo at work today & I suddenly thought of how to do it..

Looks terrible but works!

Can't see when fitted,

Will only be a temp measure & im not sure I even like it now lol but it's on!

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - tucpal - 3:rd-Aug-2015

Well its on

RE: Fitting visible exhaust tip - Rymaan82 - 23:rd-Aug-2016

Just thought id bring up an old thread,  . I was just looking at doing the same mod to my exhaust, but going down the bolt on exhaust tip route rather than a cut/weld or full exhaust replacement. I've Measured my exhaust and its around the 50mm diameter so I don't think i'll have any issues there. I'm looking for the oval style tip and nothing too large, I like the look of the one @Mucorek fitted but the link he posted doesn't work and i'm not sure if he is still active on here.

Does anyone have any other recommendations and also does the angle of the bolt on tip have to be considered? I'm seeing ones with almost 90 degree drop down angles and others with a slight drop down angle.

Posted some pics of my exhaust to give you an idea.

Thanks
