I have a 1.4 na with 40k on the clock, today on the way home it was making this whirring type sound at a standstill , with a slight rev the sound will go, the sound seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine bay, belt seems fine, steering is fine. Any ideas?

Water pump?
Its more of a whirring whine, disappears if i give the engine a slight rev.
Surley either of those would get progressively louder while revving?
Tight or worn aux belt, may be worth an audio clip.
I know aux belts can make some strange noises
