Hey all,

just bought a 2L GTC, and its fab, 42k miles, 7 years old, was a Cat D, but has full Mots (all passed but had a few advisories here and there) going back 6 years and well.... I got it for a pretty cheap price so despite the issues I'm a happy bunny

So the good - Drives wonderfully, and the Dab/stereo is fantastic and looks pretty lovely too (white).

But, the issues

No parking sensors - have a "service parking sensor" warning

No Cruise control

and no air con.

Now the aircon Im hoping is nothing more than a refill job, but the other things I really don't know.

What made it Cat D I'm not to sure about, but there is some fixed bodywork on the front left side. My current theory is was in a crash and in repairing it (possibly to save money) the parking sensors and cruise control were ignored/removed/damaged. After all they are not needed for a mot.

Its late in the day, so all I've been able to do is check the fuses for the parking sensor - the fuse was fine.

And we have a diagnostic reader but that showing no errors - but every chance Ive not set that up correctly (ill try again later)

Anyway, nice to be here, and if you have any thoughts or 1st plan of attack on any of these Id love to hear it!
Welcome to VXOC.

In terms of the parking sensors there will be a fault code store if it's throwing up an service error message.
Given you say front left side I would look there for a broken or damaged wire could even be a faulty sensor.

C/C could be as simple as the break pedal has not been learned.

Without seeing it and reading the code I couldn't advise further really as I don't have a crystal ball.

What code reader do you have?

Hey Rusty!

thanks for the reply. So the reader is a cheap as chips one, probably bought from a car boot sale that my father in law had lying around. After a quick look online its likely not up to much.

Do you have a recommendation model that I could buy?
your 100% be better of with an MDI and GDS2 (main dealer level software and interface) but the cost of this isn't worth it.

The next option is an OP-com I recommend you buy from the link below, you can get it cheaper on ebay etc but low quality units etc.

Please note the op-com is still very limited on the Astra-J/GTC so don't really expect much other than reading and clearing fault codes.

Hey Rusty!

I have an updated.

I got the error codes to read when I sent the car to get its air-con working (all working now).

got three codes:

p0069 - manifold pressure - not a big deal I'm told.

p0580 - this is the cruise control  - not overly concerned about this one. Garage thinks it would be a lot of work to fix/find the fault.

b0957 - which is an error for the front right corner parking sensor, and my main concern.

Here's what I need some advice one.....

I bought a new parking sensor and swapped it over and still the system does not work, same "service parking assist" warning as before.

I did look at the middle right parking sensor, and interestingly the sensor has been glued directly onto the wire (see photo). There should be a female attachment that the sensor locks into but it is gone.

I'm wondering if the problem is connected, do you/anyone have any ideas, or routes to go down to find the issue.

I'd like to know who thought repair was acceptable.

The problem is sourcing the correct plug isn't easy unless you find a cheap rear or front loom off ebay.
