Hello cubez,
You might want to check my thread from a few weeks back.
Note that I haven't been able to install the dashcam yet due to lack of time.

I will probably end up wiring the dashcam to the cig lighter in the center console.
As this keeps powered on even when the engine stops running but also turns off when you remove your keys.

Cheers i saw that when i was looking though.
I just wasn't too sure about if the power would be there on the key or not.

There are devices now that will power a dash cam from the OBD port.
eg, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBDII-Micro-U...2717034030
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBDII-Chargin...2821323516
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD-HARDWIRE-...3672876788
There are different ones, depending on size of USB connector on the dash cam. You'll just need to do a search. They all offer Low Voltage Input Protection where if the voltage drops below a certain amount it will shut down to save flattening your battery.
Also, some have switches on to enable you to leave the dash cam powered up all the time, or to switch off after approx. 1 hr.
