How to change speakers

to remove door cards please see remove door cards how to

Tools needed

*7mm Socket
*Trim tools
*Phillips Cross head screw driver
*Torx 10 bit
*Stanley knife
*Wire cutters
*Crimping tool
*Soldering Iron (optional)

Here's everything I have.

fit the speakers into the adapters
As you can see we have a speaker adapter and a piece of foam

We need to put that bit of foam around the inside of the speaker adapter like so, (it's got a sticky back)

Now put the speaker inside
Then fix it in place with the four screws

Repeat for the other 3, sit at the table in the warm with a cuppa for that part.
Now to the car.
Remove the rear card and you will see the speaker is held in by one 7mm bolt.

Undo it and pull the adapter towards you, you might need a small slot head screwdriver on the side just to start it, (there is a little metal clip at top)

Once done unplug the connector, then cut it off,

take the wire that came with your replacement speakers (I tinned them)

then join them up to the door wiring using crimps The reason I used crimp connectors is I found the factory wire seemed liked it had been burnt and I couldn't get a solder joint, (I've done 2 J's now and both were the same).
insulate with tape and then hook to speaker and fit

If you want to add sound deading then I removed the plastic waterproof sheet and used this as a template.

Re-stuck the plastic sheet

peeled the backing off the sound deading
and stuck to the door (I used my hot air gun to run round the edges Tucpal says a hair-dryer works too)

Replace door card and that's one rear door done.
Repeat for the other side.

Front Door

Next move onto the front door really is much the same as the rear.

Remove speaker and repeat the steps for the rear
cut the connector off crimp new connects on tape up hook up to speaker and refit.

The sound dreading is so not straightforward, leave the waterproof plastic there and just cut patches to fit it.

Before you go and put the door cards on the front doors you might to check the centre speaker,
I didn't have the speaker but I had the wiring for it.

Please see how to remove head unit

once you have removed the head unit and screen you should if luckily find the wire for the centre speaker tucked away.

Just cut the connector off and add crimp some spades on or (wire with spades on).

To fit speaker remove the plastic trim centre of the dash
Run the wires up hook up to speaker and then fit speaker.

refit trim

any extra wire pull down and hid back into the hole you found the cable

Tweeters

Remove the plastic cover trim

undo the bolt to remove tweeter and adapter.

Un-clip and remove car.
There are 3 little clips like this just pull them back gentle one by one and remove the tweeter.

I had to adapt my adapters to fit my new tweeters (this can take some time).
**DO NOT CUT YOUR TWEETER ADAPTER** check before rushing in.

Once done you can refit the tweeters.

And then replace the trim

Enjoy your new speakers.

Thinking of upgrading the front (and maybe rear) speakers, I want to use a set that just simply swap over, anyone got any links???
I used all Kenwood i'll get all the details when I can move as the boxes are in the loft
One thing I will say Camaron is you are best too change all the speakers. As the sound never really came together till they were all done

think rusty has the best option not sure what he paid

Going woth the set of apline ones

get them in bits front first then rear and then center it is better than buying bad ones
there are better alpine speakers out there and others but there not that bad at all i am happy

Kool, so with the big boxes you get with the first ones where do they go mate?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
if you fit the cross overs the go to the box then the main speaker then to the tweeter
you can hide it were ever you want behind the glove box under the seat in the door card up to you

you can just wire them as they are and not use the crossovers if you wish also
What do the cross overs do then mate?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
just splits the signal and sends it to the tweeter
Oh right would it even make a difference? Aren't that only used if you didn't have tweeters before?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
basically yes just wire them in as they are and don't bother with the crossovers much easier
what settings do you have for your audio mate, as what ever i do i cant hear my rear ones unless i fully adjust to rear sound only...

me and rusty did fit some speakers a while do and put some dredging on doors
set to rear 6
the rears are useless they don't get sent the full signal
I find I get good all round sound, Might be because I have a aftermarket HU.

The only thing that is annoying is when one of those songs come on that you find the need to turn up my HU shuts it's down.

I was wondering if an amp would help?

Found this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151332647843?_...EBIDX%3AIT
Well i had my speakers come today :-) [Image: besy5y3u.jpg]

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
NICE well done
rusty do you still have a link for the wire adapters ??
They were not for the j as listed mate.
Huh?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rusty found some connectors that plug in to the original speaker plug
and fit the new speaker just saves cutting the wires
but the plugs can just be cut off and the new ones reattached no problem
Is it got a link mate :-)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Oh wait i think think the plugs have already been cut off mate when we done the set in there

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
no i don't have any links but it is not a problem
What is the quality of these speakers like is there a noticeable difference over standard
i have the lower SXE alpine there are not made of paper for one and are better built
the sound is just clearer and not as distorted at higher volumes
and the coaxial center and rear certainly have a different sound quality
over all they do make a difference

but a full amp setup can not be beaten

i am sure lewis will give us all a good review on sound etc
Mine are not made of paper are they? Lol

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
no the standard ones are
did you get them done lewis ??
Yes mate just not the ones in the dash as rusty didnt have the connections
Any good so far
tucpal Wrote:Any good so far

Yeh mate are good cant wait to get rest in
Good news lol
I know I said put the component speakers in the front but I recommend swapping the coaxial to the front I did that yesterday and the sound is much improved with the coaxial in the front and the component in the rear the sound is fuller and all round better now
