This is Guide is for How Ho fit Power Folding Mirrors for the Astra j and GTC.

STEP ONE..............

Is to make two Looms for the Driver Side and the Passenger side Mirrors
The way I got the Pin’s to Add to the Connectors was to Buy a Spare Driver’s Door Loom
And Remove the Pin’s for the Connectors that you need.

I have taken Pictures of the Pin’s Needed if anyone can Identify them
Can you send me a Link so I can Add them in Here
If you can find the Correct Pins this will be Easier in the long run
and cheaper 4 Pin’s for the Main Body Connector found at.

Mouser Electronic (item number 571-962942-1) seen below.

4 Pins for Mirror Connector Grey.

2 Pins for Mirror Switch Connector Black found here.

RS Components (item number 680-9027).

For the Passenger side you Need Two Wires 5 amp Wire is Fine

Two Pins for the Body Loom Connector
and Label them (11 and 12)

Two pins for the Mirror Connector Grey
label them (11, BW ) & (12, PY)
make the loom about 1 meter Long.

For the Driver’s side Add two Pins for the Body Loom Connector
and label them (11 & 12).

Add Two Pins for the Mirror Connector Grey
label them (11, BW. mirror) & (12, PY. Mirror.)

Again make the Loom about a Meter Long

Splice into the Wire Marked (11,) about 6 Inches Down from the (Mirror Connector Pin)
add about 10 Inches of Wire & Add the Pin to the End & Label this Wire (11, BW. switch)

Splice into the wire marked (12) about 6 inches down from the (mirror connector pin)
& add about 10 inches of wire & add the pin to the end & label this wire (12 PY. Switch.)

So that is the Looms made up & you are Ready to fit the Looms in place

STEP TWO...............

Here is to Remove the Positive from the Battery just be Safe
So you Don't get a short when you Disconnect the main Door Connector.

STEP THREE.............

Is to Remove the Door Cards follow the How-to that can be Found Here.

here.

STEP FOUR............

Remove the 10mm Bolt for the Door Catch to give Better Access to the main Body Connector
But be Warned do not Close the Door with this Bolt out
If the Catch Goes into the Door it is a bit of a Pig to get it out Again.

You are now able to Remove the Main Body Connector
starting at the top Remove the Rubber Boot
This will give you Access so you can now Remove the Connector
by Pulling the Pink Tab Down.

You can now Add the Pins marked 11 and 12 on the Loom
(11 Goes too Position 11)
(12 goes too position 12 )
on the Female side of the Connector
Pushing the Pins all the way in
For this to work you need to have the Corresponding Male Pins
on the male side of the Connector this can be Checked by Holding a Mirror
To see the Male Pins on the car Body
But everyone that has Done this has had them in Place so this Should not be an Issue
If they are not there then you cannot do this.

www.vxoc.org.uk

Make a small Hole in the Rubber Boot
Thread the other side of the Cable Through the Rubber Boot
Remove the speaker from the door
so you can Gain better Access To the inside
And Pull the Cable in to the Door.

Pull the Cable up Inside the Door
out through the Black Grommet for the Mirror Connector.

Make sure you have Not Obstructed the Window Operation
and have the Cable out of the way of the Window Runners.

Now take the Mirror Connector (grey) & Pull back the Grey Tab so you can add the 2 Pins needed.

The Connector on the Right is what it will Look like when you have the Pins fitted the Connector
on the Left shows were to Add the pin’s

add Pin (11, BW. mirror) to Position marked (BW on the mirror connector grey)
And add (12, PY. mirror) to position marked (PY on the mirror connector grey).

Now Take the Last Two Pins from the Loom and get the (Mirror Switch Connector, black)
The Connector on the Right is what it will look like when the Pins are in & the Connector on the Left is were to add the Pin’s
Marked (BW. and, PY)

Add pin (11. BW, switch) to position (BW. on the switch connector, black)
Add the pin (12. PY, switch) to position (PY. on the switch connector, black)

That's the Driver’s side all Wired up
So now it is Ttime to fit the Power Fold Mirror.

Remove Two 10mm Bolts from the inside of the Door
It is best to get Someone to Hold the Mirror
Until you have Removed to Connector
Just so the Mirror Does not Fall out.

Push the Rubber Grommet on the inside of the Door in too the Door
& Gently Pull the Cable up through the Hole on the Outside of the Door
The mirror is out & off the car R
Refit the Mirror by Pushing the Cable in the Hole First
Pull it Back into Door & Refit the Grommet
You can now Refit all the Connectors & put Everything Back in Place
fit the new Power Fold Switch to the Door Card
You now have a Working Driver side Power Fold Mirror.

STEP FIVE........

Now for the Passenger side
Remove the Door Card etc
Get the Loom you made for the Passenger side.

Add the Pin marked (11. to position, 11.) on the (Main Door body Connector)
& the Pin Marked (12. to the position, 12.) on the (Door body Connector.)

The Connector on the Left is were to Add the Pins from the Loom
The Connector on the Right is what it will Look like when they have been Added

Add pin (12) to the Position marked (PY) on the (Mirror connector, grey)
Add pin (11) to position marked (BW) on the (mirror connector, grey).

That's it Resemble Everything & You now have Power Fold Mirrors
There is no Programming Needed this is Plug and Play
So you only Need to Make the Two Looms
And get the Power Fold Switch and the Mirrors for this to Work.

Thanks for Reading & I Hope this Helps
If you need any Help just ask.

AS WITH ALL ELECTRICAL HOW TOO,S.
you do this at your own risk if you follow the how to correctly
there should be no problems thank you.

if anyone can identify the pins needed and supply links to were to get them
can they send the links here thank,s.

I think these might be the pins for this mate
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/6809027/
they look correct to me. Smile
this mod can only be donne in cars with heated mirrors right?

cumps
They are all fitted with heated mirrors I think you will find mate.
thought that only the "cosmos" version had heated mirrors, my mistake.

thanks guys
some cars in Europe will be a lot different to the UK
but even if they are not heated it will still work
should be doing this soon the item that rusty sells is a treat after seeing the youtube video guys

ps, does any body have the part number for the mirror switch? thanks rizla
hey guys, is there any way to make que passenger exterior mirror auto "aim" down when we engage reverse gear, so we can see sidewallk when parking and dont scratch rims. and then turn back to normal position when car is no longer in reverse gear.

i think it could be awesome complement to this mod.

i saw this in one audi A3 and i am wondering if its possible on our astras.

cumps
very good guide mate, will come in handy for those who wants this fitted Smile

you could use this kit
tucpal that kit is only for auto fold when lock/unlock, or it can do what i described above?

thanks
tucpal Wrote:you could use this kit

I can't see this working mate it only folds unfolds the mirrors,

It might be possible to adapt but not 100% sure.
if you have any idea how it could be done or have some free time to look into it, it would be nice.

keep up your good work guys

thanks

Am already looking into it just trying to find info from a car that has it.
here is some video showing what i was talking about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYl5wQB-OHM

and seem that on VW it comes stock:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V87JGv9XOk
looks very nice but not a chance that can be done
why not mate?
the mirror glass would have to move remotely in to two positions
there is no circuit that will put the mirror into a pre set position
and then back to its origanl position.
nice idea but no chance
arduino microcontroller do that, and can store a lot of positions, not only 2 i guess.

one easy way its maybe, program in the board something like this:

if any gear or N and reverse gear engaged-> passenger mirror go down for 2 or 3 seconds. (the amount of time that mirror takes to go to desired position)

if reverse gear and N or Any gear engaged - > mirror go up taking same amount of seconds. so mirror gets in original position.

english is not my native language, but i hope you guys can understand what am i thinking and trying to say.

cumps
your English is very good.
i would be interested to see how you get on with this
think you need to find a controller that would work
my astra J is from 2010, it does not show on trip computer what gear we have engaged. but newer ones show,

so maybe its possible to get that information inside arduino board as input, and then, in output we have the board conected to the switch that control the passenger mirror and take the action.

EDIT: remembered something even easier, my astra as stock option to turn on rear whipper if reverse engaged and its ranning (it uses rain sensor)

maybe it can be done from here, what you think?
you could take the switch signal for on off or up down
from the reverse light wire
now we getting somewhere Smile

it is very likely that we could do this
You need a pin out for the mirror connector
to get the correct pins for up and down left and right movement

but there is still the problem of the switch any thing you connected would have to get passed it
My theory was,

Live feed from reverse light, into module then feed out to left and right mirrors down with other feed to left and right up.

or somthing along those lines.
Here is the pinout for the mirror switch.
Hi guys i was also thinking about reverse mirror tilt module i found one that it says universal (link)
but i dont know if this work for manual gear or needs automatic gear.
that looks very good but as you say will it work for a manual transmission
i would like to see how it is wired up
I know a member on here is looking into making a module for the Astra.
I notice it has the instalation guide (link) i read it but i dont think it will work good.
that could work taking power from the reverse light
pin outs for the mirror and mirror switch will be needed for up down locations
but there is still a problem setting the position you like when driving will it be able to go back to a pre set position you like
and if someone ells drives the car and say adjusts the mirror what will happen to the pre set adjustments you have made

i think it is far easier just to turn the mirror position down with the electric mirror switch
as you sometimes may want to see out that mirror for other reasons than seeing the curb when reversing
Tucpal in your write is there an error as you mention adding pins to location 37 and 38 of the door pillar connector shouldn't it be 11 and 12 ??

Baz I think it might be typo as I've just checked the X600RHD Drives door Harness and it comes back as pin 11 & 12

Pin 37 = Driver Door Open Switch Signal
Pin 38 = Not Used
That's what I thought maybe he got confused with underdoor lighting retrofit

Looks like you've added some chrome here mate?????
o yes well done i redid that in a hurry 11 and 12 go to 11 and 12
sure you all worked that out ha ha i will sort that out soon. Blush
Rusty2009 Wrote:Looks like you've added some chrome here mate?????

nope were ??
tucpal Wrote:nope were ??

around the speaker grill.
thats genuine 2010 mate Thumbs
Looks much better will have to see if I can get some to add to 2012!!!!!!
2010 to 2012 have it but you must have just missed out
rusty can you edit the how too i am off the bed just got off nights

Yeah missed out lol.

Edited the typo I'll edit the pic later mate.
this is what i was talking about, (mirror tilt down when reverse gear applyed) and someone did it...

anyone has information on this?

cumps
WHAT!! Omg that is awesome

we discuss it in topic, but just random thoughts...

i decided look into that again and found this video, will try find more information...
Nice find mate that's just what I'm wanting.
my brothers golf 6 has this as factory (only passenger mirror). it moves back to normas after he reaches a cetrain speed (5 kmph or so)
First I have seen in the j do you know we're he is from and what country it my be worth asking how he did it but I would think he has taken the down position wires from the switch and just taped into the reverse single but he may have a module to assist with it
