i agree with rusty here you could just swap the center display for a bigger one
but it may need to be the correct style type
but can you put some pictures up of what you have on it, speed mpg etc.
just wondering what display you have at the moment.
I've only seen it one other car and that was Littlekings.
Yes mat swap it all back over.

Okay well lets hope the screen I will be installing is the correct type! Does anyone have any photos of the screen that's in the one I just got? I don't know how you knew which one it was Rusty2009
I'll grab some photos tomorrow and stick them on here, only reason I have the other features (Averages and mile until empty etc.) was because I had those activated
Look my trader section mate on the IPC and you will see the screen.

Okay cheers dude, will have a look now. Also the different options on mine are as follows:

So I guess the newly activated features would carry over to the new screen if this was to work
That looks so dark and dull around the dials lol
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Should do mate, TBH if it works there are more.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Whooop! Fingers crossed for this working then!
and when you say dark are you just on about the bit where the screen is? That and the white dial surrounds is all I'm missing really isn't it? Can't wait to get those dial surrounds in tbh, those alone will make it ten times better!
i see why you want to go ahead with this now
as rusty says there is only one way to find out sure he will help you work this out
and very odd looking with out the white dials
Yeah this and that lack of chrome door trim has always annoyed the hell out of me! And yeah I know you'll all help which is good
and I appreciate it too

Your be kicking the other half out and moving the car in soon lol

Hahaha she already feels like she's been replaced I think :P. I'm sure there will be comments about how I spend more on the car than her soon enough! lol
It's all 7mm screws mate.
Just that you said there are two 7mm bolts to remove so was checking if that tool would remove them
Thanks for the links dude but all a bit out of my price range with the amount I've spent on other stuff this month! Ha
I know the feeling mate always pays to keep an eye on them kits tho as sometimes they can be even cheaper in-store the real large one I saw for £100 as the case was all broken (just didn't have the money)
look for a socket screw driver and a 7mm socket
Does it have to be a long one or can it be a stubby one like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004TRQL...ref=plSrch
Just not sure if there's enough room to get your hand into where the screw is.
And damn rusty! That is a good deal then, who cares if the box is broke eh! Do you work on cars for a living then or is it just a hobby?
A stubby one should be fine mate.
No it's a hobby mate TBH as I have lifetime warranty I send it into my mechanic for mechanical work.
I tinker with the wife's car depending what's wrong.
I do try to do as much diag as possible on both cars to save some money which my mechanic loves as he's so busy.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Okay thanks
just put that through flubit to see if they can make it cheaper for me
ha.
Ahhh fair enough then! For some reason I thought you were a mechanic :P haha. Good to be able to sort basic things out though and also to retrofit things to save money isn't it
this is something I've never been good at hence why I'm trying hard now to get to grips with it all.
Good that you have a lifetime warranty as well! Probably better than the one I have with VX
TBH mate the life time warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on.

It's okay, neither is mine lol
Just realised that the black plastic isn't just a blanking plate but it shows info in the form of LEDs lighting up bits of the plastic to show things like when the doors are open:

Thinking it may not be as easy to remove and that the car may not be able to send info to the new display to show this there instead of on the LEDs .
What do people think?
Not sure if that's an LED mate would put a spanner in the works if it was. We will have to wait till you open it up to see.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well it is an led because it comes on when I open the doors...also displays other things too.
Still doesn't mean they are individual LEDS. When you open drivers door the other 3 shouldn't come up open as it warns per door etc.
I would say it works the same as the large screen just a different layout
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ahhhh okay! Well when I open any door I get the same icon that I posted. That led doesn't alert me on a per door basis. Let's hope it knows how to pass this info to the screen and not the led anyway!
Well they arrived today and are in great condition! Such a shame I can't just swap mine out with these :( gonna spend a bit of time taking them apart so I know how to do it with mine without breaking anything! Ha

Edit: Got it apart without issue anyway, broke one small clip but it was on the back of the dial surround and shouldn't need to use that bit anyway unless it turns out my current IPC doesn't have a blanking plate and I need to use this whole surround from my new IPC. One question though....how do I go about making sure the dials are back on perfectly so that they remain accurate...Or does it not matter how they go back on again?
Only thing I'm thinking now is that the circuit board on my current cluster may not be the same as the one on the cluster I'm taking the screen from...The cluster i am taking the screen from appears to have 4 LEDs (can see the white squares in the photo below) which will illuminate the screen...surely my current cluster will have less and they will be in different places due to the smaller screen?

can you put a picture of the whole circuit board up for me is this the new one and are you saying there is no display screen in it
Sure will do. Yeah this is the new one and it does have the screen, just saying that it has those 4 LEDs in place for illuminating the screen (as will my circuit board) but because my old screen is smaller, the LEDs won't be in the correct place to light up the larger screen will they?

possibly but it is not that hard to move them if needed
it looks like we need to see what is inside the other then i suppose
Oh fair enough then. So if I open mine and that's the case then I guess I'm gonna have to find time to sort the LEDs out aren't I before putting the new screen in...and I will try to get my current IPC out asap. Don't want to really do it till I have a good amount of time that's all
Okay well it works! This is with the new IPC plugged straight in and all functions are working too e.g. Average mph and all that stuff. Only issue is that it's not showing me my card overall mileage :-/
Did you swap the screen or just swap the whole IPC over mate? it may very well need to have the extra info programmed back in.
What about mileage?
And where is the pic's???????
Hey mate! I literally just plugged the new IPC in (it was in bits though at the time lol) and it worked! I've got a few things to report back on with regards to the issues in seeing now but they are minor so think this is a success!
Just trying to get it done before it goes dark so when it's done I'll report bs kith a full explanation and some pics mate
Okay guys here goes!
so I decided to just connect up the new IPC that I got after tucpal said to give it a go...and I was shocked by this but it worked!! All the info on the screen seemed to be there, this includes everything from my last IPC (with the correct info in there too) so average mph, mpg etc etc (see photos). The only issue is that instead of the cars mileage I now see "-------" I rang about a bit and someone said I should speak with Vauxhall. So I rang them and they said they can programme this in to work for me because this info is stored in the car itself! So I'm waiting to hear back as to whether they will do it next weekend for me.
Anyway the only other issues I seem to be seeing is that it tells me the washer fluid is low and also the coolant...I filled the washer fluid up but it's still saying this :-/.
Everything else works even the current MPH!
Pics as promised:

Anyone got any ideas about the warning issues? Or any comments in general...I'm sure you will :P hehe
Nice on mate, if you want to get rid of the low fuild messages you have a few options.
1. Do as Lewis did and fit a coolant tank & washer bottle with the sensor in.
2. Bridge the connections to stop it moaning.
3.Get the package turned off for them warnings.
I would suspect it will be a case of VX just plugging on the MDI and and possible an SPS and set-up and config or just re program it make sure they turn the extra info back on tho mate.
Have they told you a price atall?

Hmmmm think I may fit the washer bottle if it's an easy enough job? Also what about the coolant warning message?
Yeah he didn't seem phased by it (VX Man) he said they can do it (and have done it before) and also said that they are allowed to do it once per car or something? He said the standard price for programming things is £65 but if the job is an easy one then it will be a lot less...Take it this is the only way I'm gonna get it done really?
Don't really have any more photos as there was nothing to take photos of lol. Basically didn't need to rip the whole new IPC apart like i did last night but had no issues getting it back together again anyway
.
This MAY have succeeded like it did because the new IPC was also from a 1.7 CDTI (same as mine) and also from a 2013 one at that! So same as mine again...Because as i say I didn't even get any warning lights or anything...also didn't need to have the battery unplugged to do it
Thanks for the help/info tucpal tbh I would never have even thought to try the new IPC as it was because of everyone saying that it wouldn't work! So would probably still be stuck there now ripping my old one apart and trying to marry the screen to the old board lol.
And thanks for all your help too Rusty2009 shame we still don't know if you can just swap the screens over though :(
As long as the mileage matches up I would forget about swapping the screen over anyway.
I answered the coolant warning swap the header tank for one with a sensor.
washer bottle is a bumper off job.
Yeah I'm not gonna swap the screen now, they're no need too. And VX are confident they can do it. Ahhh sorry mate, is that an expensive job then?
another classic case of people saying it can not be done and the truth is as always no one knows until it has been tried
i would say if anyone wants this done and only has the basic display options then they would still need thew extra options to be programmed in along with the mileage also if you have a petrol car you need a petrol display etc.
And a really massive well done to sheppy for being brave enough to find out.
you must be over the moon that old display of yours was terrible and i totally see why to wanted to swap it
i will add this info to the how to section later for further reference.
again well done and you get your first how too
just get vauxhall to disable the other two options as you most likely dont have the sensors in the water bottle etc.

Yeah you're right dude! I've been told 3 times now that something cannot be done...and all of those things have been done! All it took was the right info from the right people
.
So you thinking others wouldn't have it as easy as me then with the straight swap? Whoooop!
glad I'm finally contributing to the forum too after getting so much from it
. Sorry I didn't get more photos, didn't feel they were needed though as i just followed both the IPC how too's on here. If you need any more info or photos for it just let me know
.
Ha yeah I had a genuine reason for doing this one! That screen really wound me up! Was even worse then all it told me was the mileage :-/
tucpal Wrote:just get vauxhall to disable the other two options as you most likely dont have the sensors in the water bottle etc.
Yeah may do this if it's gonna be more effort than it's worth to install the parts which have the sensors...
